7200RPM okay for HTPC?

I'm building an HTPC with a 1TB Hard Drive. As we all know, HTPC cases are pretty small, so heat ends up being an issue. I remember reading a tutorial on installing a larger hard drive and it suggested getting a lower RPM drive as lower RPM HDs generate less heat. Should I get a lower RPM HD, or would a 7200 RPM hard drive be fine?

Thanks in advance,

It shouldn't be a big deal. If you're worried about it, Western Digital has a 1TB drive that runs at 5,400 RPM and then spins up to 7,200 RPM when it needs to. I believe it's called the GreenPower. Not as high performance as some other drives though, as I recall.

Most modern 7200 rpm drives run pretty cool. My Samsung is barely warm to the touch.

Do these drives actually spin up to 7,200 RPM? I don't think anyone has actually proved this. It sounds like a bit of deceptive marketing.

That being said, I have a 750 GB Greenpower and I can't really see any real world difference.

Yeah that's the one. GP stands for GreenPower.

I don't want to create another topic so I'll ask this here. I'm getting an Antec Veris Fusion 430 HTPC case. In the description, it says theres a volume knob. Does increase the systems volume, or does it increase the volume of the TV? Also, does the volume knob work in Windows only, or can I use Linux?

Is the volume knob an important feature for you? The reason I ask is that Antec's NSK2480 is largely the same case as the Fusion, but without a few of the high end features. No VFD, no volume knob, and a 380W PSU instead of 430. If you're interested in saving money, that would be a way.

If you like the features, then go for it.

I Mainly want the case for its looks and good PSU. That and it has free shipping. The VFD I know I can get working with lcdproc, but I don't know if I can use the Volume Knob. It won't bother me if I can't use it, I'd just like to be able to. I'll look into the NSK2480.
