Hi,

What is the preformance gain from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm or ata66 vs ata 100? I am trying to get a cheap HD. SHould I get a 7200rpm or ata100 5400rpm?

Definitely get 7200rpm.

In addition, go for ATA100 drives; even if their specs are similar to ATA66 drives, much new technology has gone into them to make them faster and quieter, usually.

I've heard good things about Seagate Barracuda IV
