i have browse the board before i posted this question.
i saw that many mention that it's obviously faster with 7200rpm vs 5400 one.
but i would like to know how much faster it could be.

those who replied in an earlier thread didnt mention their hdd info, so i have my doubt on it. basically im running on 5400rpm hardisk but it is significantly slower because of the slower rotation speed and lesser cache (512kb vs 2MB on newer drive).

what i wish to know is how fast could it be given a ATA100 2MB cache 7200rpm hardisk vs a similar hdd with 5400rpm?

thanks u

It will be noticeably more responsive, loading programs will be faster, loading the operating system will be faster, etc.. Basically 5400rpms are good for storage where you don't have to access the data often, and 7200 or more (SCSI) for where the OS and programs reside on.

all you need to know is, get an ATA100 7200RPM drive, with access of no more than 9ms.
then you will have a sweet hard disk.
