7200 RPM drives, okay without dedicated fan?

I currently have 1 hard drive (75GXP) in an Antec 830 case. The case has three fans and I have always run my 7200 RPM drive with a dedicated HD fan. However, I would like to lower the noise level a bit and get more HD space. Because of this and the reliability problems, I am going to replace my 75GXP with either two Barracude IVs or 2 Maxtor 740s. Would running 2 of either of these drives be okay without dedicated cooling on them? I live in So Cal near the beach, so ambient air temp never gets real hot.

Thanks,
Keith

I have 3 HDs in my system, the only one with a fan near it is the 5400RPM Baracuda (series 2, SCSI) and it's the hottest. The IBM 34GXP and Seagate Baracuda ATA IV both run warm but nowhere near hot. They'll be fine.

I dont think anyone (company that sells systems I meant) has 7200 drives on cooler. I personally have all my drive on the thin slim cooler... my 2 cent insurance and i still got some failure.. so it's not necessary but as said, they're warm NOT hot...

Dell Dimension's used to (not directly on the fan, but infront of one of the intakes, so air was still forced over). My last setup didn't have a fan on either of my hard drives (WD 100gb Cavair 7200, and Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 40gb 7200). My current case does (Antec SX1030B) just cuz the case has a mount for a HDD fan built in and I figured I may as well use it.

I'd say it depends on your ambient case temp. Are you overclocking? With no parts running unusually hot, there shouldn't be any need for additional HD fans.
EDIT: What kind of temps are you seeing in your case/cpu?

Thanks for all the input.

I am currently running a 1.2 Athlon in a Epox 8k7a, VT GF3 Video card. Nothing is being overclocked. BIOS temp readings after a long period of use show a "System Temp" of 78 F, CPU is 105 F.

I've got a 7200rpm 60GXP drive, and not only does it not need a fan but I've got it in a silent drive enclosure from quiet PC and it doesn't overheat.
