I picked up a 500GB Seagate at BB yesterday on impulse. I had been wanting a new drive for back-up purposes and had been dropping hints around the house I needed one. We were at BB and my saw it, said the price is pretty good($90) and told me to go ahead and get it so I would shut up. I got home run a SN and it turns out to be a 7200.9, I was expecting a 7200.10. This drive is purely for storage/back-up. I am changing my 250's to straight RAID 0 and this will be for backing it up. Is it worth burning the gas to drive 20 miles to take it back and explain to the wife why it isn't good enough? I am inclined to just keep it.

If I was to get something else it would be a seagate. Probably a 7200.10 for the same money from newegg, will it gain me anything?

If it's only for backup purposes I wouldn't worry about it. You would need to copy a lot of files before you would make up your lost time replacing the drive.
