The forum is buzzing with Thuban news and rightfully so. I thought about upgrading but my 965BE runss great at 3700 and the reast of the rig is sweet so I went another way and "retired" my 939mb with the X2-4600 to rig 3 status in another case and added the following:
mb Asus M4A77TD @$84
cpu Phenom II 720BE @$99
ram 4 gig Crucial DDR3 @120

Snagged a onced used Zalman 9700 cheap and purchased Win 7 Home Premium 64.

Installed the rig (see specs below) and what fun! set multiplier to 16 and enabled ACC and auto voltage. Running 4 cores at 3200 solid over 8 hrs on prime 64 with temps no higher than 46C.
What a great chip!

True, but my 965BE works so well and I had to decide do I spend at least 200 for the 1055 vs 99 for the 720BE. BTW, how does the 1055 overclock?

I've been running an x3 720 as my main rig since those chips came out, 3.72ghz was my max, and no fourth core for me. Sweet setup for what I do, though I'll be jumping on the thuban pretty soon; doubling my core count 😀.

Hey richie come to novato bro I've got sticky green stuff :sneaky:.

Loved my two 720BEs even though I never got the 4th core!!! They're a blast to "practice" overclocking with. So guskline go have some more fun!!

Had one in a Biostar 790GX XE that was 3.6~GHz stable and another in a Biostar TA760G AM2+ that was 3.5~GHz stable. Sadly didn't keep any notes on OC'ing the 790 before selling the system, did a couple of S & Gs before settling done on 3.5GHz with the 760.

“Fastest” that I achieved using SPi, 16.5 x 233 for 3.844GHz with an 8M run.

Now the fastest using HPi was a 1M run at 15 x 221 = 3.750GHz.

The best 8M run of HPi was with 17 x 217 for 3.689GHz

excellent pick on an unlockable x3. I'd personally sell 965 and get x6 1055. but not bad, now you have another work horse rig.
