I have some ram for sale but how do I know if it is fp or EDO? I know the size and it all works, but not what kind it is. Thanks.

Unless you can get hold of the manufacturers specs and look up the numbers stamped on the chips the only way is to install them in a system and watch during the POST. Most boards will identify the memory as EDO or NON-EDO.

Generally EDO RAM is rated at 60ns. FPM is older stuff and rated at 80ns. The problem is where they overlap at 70ns.....

EDO is 8bit memory and most Fast Page is 9bit. Count the number of chips on the module. If it is a even number it is probably EDO, if it is an odd number it is most likely Fast Page.

The way I've been testing is to put SIMMs in one at a time in a 486 machine I have. I figure if they are EDO, it won't post (and this seems to be the case so far). This also makes it easy to figure out what size they are since in a Pentium machine you have to put two in together and if you're not sure you have two of the same size you may mistake an 8mb for a 4mb because the other simm it was paired with was only 4mb.
