710T or VP171B

I can't decide which one to get?

Thing is, I'm getting two for a dual setup..

And the primary purpose is intended for games, so the least ghosting the better..

Are both these LCDs the same type of panel with limited vertical viewing angles?

The Samsung specs online lie, so there's no point in looking.

And worst part is the 710Ts are backordered immensely in Canada; that's why I'm thinking about the Viewsonic VP171B now...

What is this about Samsung specs being lies? I was looking at getting a Samsung LCD in a few months myself.

Same, but I'm going w/ the Samsung 710T. I've heard nothing but good reviews from people that have bought this monitor. Anyone know when the best time to purchase an LCD or specifically a Samsung 710T would be?

710T, I have it and I have used the 171B for a few days on my own computer.

Get the 710T.

The 710T is not a 16.7 color panel, it's a actually a 16.2 color panel. I am still leaning towards the Samsung 710T, but the VP171B has a nice height adjustable stand..

Is the 171B a 16.7 or 16.2 panel?

I know, but where did I say it is had a 16.7 color panel?

The 710T also has a height adjustable stand.

The 171B is 16.2, tmk.

I wasn't referring to you...I was referring to what specs the Samsung sites were all lying about.
Visit samsung.ca and look at the 710T.

The 710T also has a height adjustable stand.

Really? It didn't look like it from the pictures at newegg.

Well pictures don't show everything, do they?

Yeah, it has been discussed, Samsung has the wrong specs listed on some of the websites. I don't care, I bought the 710T knowing this. What I do care about is how it looks, etc..and it is great. No noticeable ghosting in any of my games, great contrast, and thin black bezel.

Edit: Is there no way you can just order a 710T from the US?

Check for yourself if you can at Fry's,Best Buy, CompUSA etc., first before actually trusting any of our subjective opinions. The 710T is a great looking monitor. I've seen it in person. I've also seen the Viewsonic, but not side-by-side with the Samsung. Overall, their performance is about equal. The VP171B is going to be more colorful than the 710T by a tad, especially with movies or photos of people. It has a slightly lower 500:1 contrast ratio which is still high. In darker scenes, their MIGHT be a little bit of a grey look, but I don't think it will be a big deal. You can't test a monitor with games in a store, but from what others say here, the 710T is good with games.

I really wish I could check it myself, otherwise I wouldn't be asking for pictures, reasons, and opinions...

Being in Canada, there's no Fry's, Best Buy or CompUSA. There's really no place here in Vancouver, BC, that has the 710T or VP171B for display!

Futureshop only has the 712N for display and various other Samsung models (ie 173P).

And it really doesn't help when there's a great shortage of the 710Ts here in Canada. It's backordered in every store that sells computer parts.

I would say go with 710T...

My friend has the VP171B and he's not too happy with it. The worst part is I recommended that monitor to him after reading the reviews. :'( Being backordered just shows you how popular 710T is.

That's what the manufacturer may lead you to think..

Maybe it's cause they are phasing out this model and that's why it's in short supply??

I sure hope not, but I guess only time will tell. Everystore I call can't tell when is more coming. So that leads me to wonder if Samsung has discontinued this model or not.

Anwyays, I'm anxiously waiting for the next shipment..

Phasing out a model that just fvcking came out? Riiiiight.

hmmm that model is very new... why would you think they are going to discontinue that model? 😵;

Anyways, you are free to buy whatever you want, but look into something else instead of VP171B... Viewsonic has other good monitors. If you are determined to buy the VP171B, maybe I can convince my friend to sell his monitor to you? He would need to get another monitor first before getting rid of it though...

Some stores have told me that..I dunno. The 710T isn't all that new anyways...It's been in Korea for quite some time!

I want that Samsung 710T...I was just considering other options...

The length of time that it has been in Korea makes no difference.

It's just whatever my regular sales rep has heard and told me from his sources.
I don't know if it's true or not, I'm just saying.

OH well...

I just don't want to end up getting two 710Ts only to find out a newer and better model comes out 1 month later! 😱

get the 172X 😉

172X looks to use the same panel as the 710T. Why get that when that 172X is like $100+ more?

I don't really care for the base-that-you-cannot attach since I want to mount the panels onto LCD arms.

As well, the 172X doesn't pivot..

The only reason to get the 172x over the 710T is if you want an even smaller bezel and silver, and are willing to spend more. The 710T is a bit "bigger" because its power supply is integrated.
