If anyone has been following, Im making a quiet rig for PVR purposes, trying to use up spare parts I have and tweaking bits here and there.

I have a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ hsf from my 1800+ Palomino days. Its a good hsf combo but the fan is going to be a but noisy for this operation so Im looking for a 70mm fan to replace it. Im looking for a quality brand fan that would run roughly at the equivilent noise level of an 80mm Panaflo L1A. I know that 70mm is a bit out of the norm size but a decently priced fan would probably be better than replacing the entire hsf combo. Any suggestions?

Ive been experimenting with Speedfan and my NF7-S Rev 2.0. If all goes well, Ill be using an NF7-S Rev 2.0 in the PVR rig so this gives me an oppurtunity to set some things up. I can get the board to read my temperatures and I can manually set fan speeds % format, no rpm monitoring via my Panaflo's. Is it possible to set fans to certain speed %ages at certain temperatures? I was thinking of setting the case fans to 0% until the case temperature was getting too hot for my liking, the same with CPU fan, 0% until it reaches an uncomfortable temperature. If anyone can shed any light on this or provide suggestions with respect to software, Id appreciate input.

Thanks in Advance.

EDIT: Ive managed to get the clock changer to run smoothly. It can switch from 100mhz FSB to 133mhz FSB without a hitch so that will help keep temperatures down.

EDIT2: Got the fan speed change on temperature thing working. I missed some obvious check boxes within the options.

Happy to help anyone that would like to know how to do it.

Once in a great while, I will buy at Mouser.com. They are in Texas.

They have a ebe-papst 70x70 x15 @ $29.95. If that is close to what you want,
shop by the part number. You might find a better deal.

Mouser has a huge selection of fans, if you look through the thermal management
section you might find something that will suit your needs.

G/Y

EDIT: I said shop Mouser, not buy Mouser. Once I have a part number, than doing a search for best price is a lot easyer. Cripes!!

I think you might have a hard time finding a good 70mm fan, Mouser is an option but they are way to expensive. I think the best option is to go for a new heatsink and fan, the Zalman 7000 and Thermalright SI-97 both work with Socket A and can be carried over to a A64 system later.

About SpeedFan; I wouldn?t bother setting the fans to 0%, starting and stopping the fans isn?t the best thing to do, temps will also rise much faster in such a situation. I would set them to their lowest starting speed as a min and have the gradually increase as temp rises.

But both of those heatsinks are expensive and Im hoping to skip S939.

The ALX-800 is about £8 so I had a backup plan.

Ive been fiddling with Speedfan all yesterday. I noticed how the fan would spin up slowly and down slowly when it reached my "desired" temperature so I set a low speed for my CPU fan. Working out where my Case fans start.
