The snack is still very healthy BUT 70g is like 2x the carbohydrates during the 1st phase of the low carb's diet.

At first I typed 35g until I noticed one small (size of a frozen biscuit) is actually TWO servings, so if you eat the whole thing it's 70 freakin' grams.

So yeah it's closer to 3x or even 4x.

It's hard on the first few weeks. Even one slice of whole wheat bread is 13-14g.

One Toaster Scramble for breakfast and you're done for the day, too! :)

It all depends on what you're doing.

That would be a very healthy snack if you're going to be active in the hours following eating it.

I eat snacks like that when I ski or bike ride.

Folks, there is nothing wrong with carbs, so long as you're burning them.

Coupla days.

Seriously, depends on your metabolic rate. If you're just now getting into an exercise program it would take longer than if you've been active for some time and have increased your metabolic rate. Also, the more carbs you intake the less your body burns fat as it's using up the carbs.

Well, the bar is 188 calories. I could burn off most of that in just 15 minutes of high intensity biking. It's not that much.

Carbs give you fast energy. If you're doing active things and are interested in performance, you want high carb foods.

I'd rather go the cautious/conservative route and consume as few carb's per day as possible.

Can you do that without starving yourself or feeling hungry all the time?

I wish fish were easier to prepare.

I was just now watching The View.. rerun from when Atkins was alive, and he was on the show. They also had Susanne Summers, and she was saying that as long as you don't eat fat and carbohydrates together, nothing will be stored as fat because of an enzyme in the stomach. Is she right?

Fish is very easy to prepare. Buy some pre marinated salmon filets at the market, fire up the gas grill and cook them 8 minutes on the skin side, 6 on the flip side.

Avoid SIMPLE carbs such as sugar, refined flour, etc..so basically anything that is white in color, avoid. Whole grain instead of white bread. Whole wheat pasta. Fruits, veggies, etc..Don't overdo fruits like bananas, raisins etc..Berries are probably the best fruit for you. Nuts are also good.

Sure you can!

For me, a typical breakfast is a couple of scrambled eggs and some bacon or sausage. Yeah, it's not the healthiest but it beats a big bowl of cereal. Sometimes, I'll just eat one Toaster Scramble if I'm pressed for time.

Lunch is either a salad with grilled chicken and fat-free Thousand Island or tuna (with relish and mayo) on whole wheat bread.

Dinner is typically grilled chicken (flavored various ways), vegetables, and a salad. Or, I'll do fish fillets (I like Tilapia with some Thai Ginger marinade...only takes about 15 min. to bake at 420F).

Amused - Thanks, we do have a nice bbq grill might try that. Any recommendations on simple to cook but delicious fish? I'll probably buy from CostCo.

xyion - I've never even heard of that, I'll Google it up. Where would they sell that, what kind of grocery store?

Saulbadguy - Thanks for the tips, I would hate to give up bread. I'll just go with more natural stuff like whole wheat, avoid anything white or processed. Great advice, thank you again!

conjur - I would love a bacon and egg breakfast but I thought bacon = fat and eggs = cholesteral? Of course eggs aren't that bad as long as you don't eat 5 a day, right? Everything in moderation.

ban huh? thats harsh.

Rossman: I got like 2 lbs of Tiliapia at Walmart for $5, made 2 solid meals for myself and my roommate. Ate it with some veggies.

2-1/2 lbs. Tilapia fillets
2-4 tsp. butter or margarine, softened (I dont use this)
2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

//I throw in some crushed red pepper and chili powder, recipe didnt include this.

Lemon-Parmesan Sauce: (i dont include this part)
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tbl. fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Garnish

2 lemons, sliced fresh parsley
Rinse the tilapia fillets in cold water and drain thoroughly.
Top with butter or margarine and lemon juice.
Broil about 4 inches from the source of heat for approximately 5 to 6 minutes or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily when tested with a fork.
Top each portion with 1-2 tbl. of Lemon-Parmesan Sauce; broil 2-3 minutes or until sauce puffs and turns golden brown.
Place fillets on serving plate; garnish with lemon slices and fresh parsley.
Serves: 6

Total cook time: <15 minutes. Depending on your oven of course, it could take less.

EDIT: Rossman - exactly what I make with some mods.
