I have an elsa gladiac geforce gts 2 32mb, is it normal to be getting only 72fps in cs? I read about people getting 90fps and stuff, I got the newester drivers and bios and everything

To get 99 FPS (which is the HL max IIRC) you need to change your max fps setting in the game ("max_fps 99" or "fps_max 99" - one or the other). You will also need to increase your monitor's refresh rate and/or disable vertical synch.

Personally, I run mine at 85FPS, 85Hz, V-sync on.

You should be able to get that maximum (70-72fps) with 4x FSAA in Half-Life. People who report higher readings are liars, dirty rotten liars:). I like the limitation, helps with keeping people's multiplayer performance up to speed, plus it's not like you can discern a difference between 70 and 100fps.

Grr, this always bothers me. People, the game/engine is HALF-LIFE, not Counter-Strike, get it right;).

You lie! That would only be true if the card was 4 times as powerful, which it is not. FSAA and CS work, but it kills your FPS.

hmmm...i believe the human eye cannot detect much past 30-40fps...

thus...id be happy with 30-40 fps...it's certainly better than the 10 i play on right now...hehe

honestly, imo, 50-60 is all you really need

(thus the upgrade im dying to get) :)

Good read... already knew most of that, but a good read nonetheless.

Yeah, it kind of gets annoying when people say "you can't see more than 30fps" .. blech, imagine what life would be like if that were true.

It's all about the blur, people, the blur!! :p

The point is to get a higher than 30 as the absolute lowest you get. That way you don't miss someone in a deathmatch game. Generally the higher you can get, the higher the lowest will be.

You can get your fps up to 200, but it ain't gonna help you with Net lag...the ultimate equalizer. Kinda like putting Pirelli's on a 91 Excel hatchback.

You need more than the minimum FPS because if there's smoke, you know your FPS is going to drop and you may die as a result. I know that when I use to have an ATI card, forgot which one, I was getting 29fps, but something like 6-10fps in smoke. Thus, it's much better to run the max and know that your fps will be ok when people start to drop smoke grenades on you.
