700e/133fsb = GeForce 2 GTS agp/88mhz, will my GeForce2 do it?

I currently have a 533a@948/118fsb which means my GeForce2 is running at a 79mhz/agp bus.

I was thinking of going to a PIII 700e@933, but if I bump the FSB up to 133mhz that will put my agp bus at 88mhz!

Anyone know if my GeForce 2 will do this w/out problems?
Anyone running a GeForce 2 at these specs now?
I must be sure,I want a STABLE setup!

my specs:

533a@948 / GORB / MSI slotket
Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 GTS 32mb agp
Soyo 6ba+IV mobo
160mb pc-100 (i know I'll need pc133 for the 700e)
SB Live
13.6 gb Maxtor hd
32x cdrom

I have no problem at all, see my sig for details. However, just because one can do it doesn't mean another of the same brand can. For example, my old Leadtek DDR gave me lots of problems at 88 and I had to turn the fsb down to 126 where other folks with the same Leadtek DDR had no problem.

The odds are heavily in your favor that your GTS can do the dance. There are very few that can't.

LarryJoe,
Nice system!

How about helping me decide my next upgrade?

Heres my total specs:

533a@948 / GORB / MSI 6905 slotket
Soyo 6BA+IV mobo
160mb pc-100 ram
Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 GTS (32mb/agp)
13.6 5200rpm/ATA33 Maxtor HD
32X Creative cdrom
17" proview monitor
SB LIVE
Cambridge 4 point surround Sound spkrs w/sub
Microsoft Intellimouse explorer
Microsoft naturaul(wave) keyboard

What would you do?
1)700e@933 + pc-133 ram?
2)30GB Maxtor DiamondMax plus 40 7200rpm/ATA66 HD?
3)Bigger monitor?

LarryJoe, you have a very nice pc & obviously do your homework when upgrading.
I would really appreciate your advice on what to do to get my pc up-to-date & well rounded on performance.
Should I just go with the faster HD to round out my sytem for now?
Is the HD speed difference from 5400/33 - 7200/66 worth it?
Or is the 700e just too much faster than my 533a@948 to pass up?

I have about $400.00 to throw at it right now & I don't know what to do next.

you will have no problem on an 89mhz agp. oddly enough, the gladiac is the only gts based card that couldn't hack the 148fsb(98mhz agp)test at anandtech. my gladiac takes a crap in 3D above 143fsb on my BF6/650E regardless of agp mode/aperture size. it's a visiontek made gladiac, and the visionteks w/ a visiontek bios don't seem to fail, must be a elsa bios issue.

LarryJoe: What's your cpu temp at 933 ?

I had a c550 & there is a big diff. between a c550 & a P3-700.

There is a world of difference between c550 & 933.

But you could also benefit from a faster hard drive. I'd
recomend the new IBM gxp75 drive. Buycomp has a 30gig for $197.

As whether you hit 933 ,it should but you never know.

Check my setup.

The only problem I have is that my CPU temp is 58C/136F.

I need to get an Alpha w/ some artic silver.

MTDEW:

Upgrade suggestions:
Buy a new hard drive if you're getting low on space. A new one will also be noticeably faster, but if you don't need space right now, upgrade to a larger monitor! How can you restrict yourself to a 17" these days? Let that GeForce 2 flex it's muscles and supply you with high-res eye candy on a larger screen! Your eyes will thank you.

Hey thanks, it is nice to hear! First off, you also have a very nice system there. So my recommendations are really luxury upgrades here for the power, must have it all user with $400! I only have 1 suggestion:

I would upgrade to a 19" Monitor. No question, it is a good purchase that won't be obsolete in 6 months. Unfortunately, a good one will eat up all of you $400.

Now if you went to a 700, there is a good chance your PC100 will not do 133, especially since you have multiple sticks in there. You need to run a 133fsb to hit 933. Anything less and you may as well keep your celery. If you wanted to get the 700, you would need to buy good PC133 ram and it is selling pretty high right now. A stick of 128MB PC133 Mushkin Infineon is running about $140, the 700 can be had for $215 shipped.

Your hard drive is fine for now. You wouldn't notice the difference if you went for a 66/7200 drive. You also probably wouldn't notice the difference between your Celery@948 and a 700@933. You would definitely notice the difference between a 17" and nice flat aperture grill 19" monitor.

Those temps seem a bit higher than ideal. My temps is a minimum of 25C and a max of 33C on a hot day or after playing Q3 for an hour or so. Make sure you have a good thermal compound application between the HS and CPU. I use an orb and have a front case fan sucking in and a rear sucking out in addition to the ps fan. I really lowered my temps when I put the rear case fan in, about a 10C drop. I was in the 40's and sometimes hit 50 with retail cooling and no rear case fan.

Good luck to both of you.

LOL!!!

Oh great, I thought I had to buy something from you to get your help! :D Jeez, now I'm stuck with this P3 600e@798 (posts as a 800eb) running rock solid at default voltage and about 27 C...

Nice proc, LarryJoe, I love it! I haven't gotten bold enough to really push it yet, but I'll be in touch. BTW, activate the Private Message feature in your profile so I can drop you a line!!!
