I recently ordered a computer for a friend at work that cost about 1100USD. Thanks to everyone for their input and help with that build. It should show up next Wednesday. Another friend at work has decided that since the first co-worker got a new computer and yesterday was pay-day he wants me to build him one as well so we can all game together. I gladly said I would because I usually jump at any opportunity to play with computer hardware. His budget is lower though at only 700USD. It will be mainly used for gaming, web browsing, multimedia, and school work. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Here's my current idea for the machine:
CPU: Intel C2D E4400
The 10x multiplier means I can just move the FSB to 300 and have a 3GHz chip.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
I figured that if he ever wanted to upgrade his machine I should get him a P35 board and this was the cheapest on Newegg. As I have stated before I usually tend to go with Gigabyte boards.
Memory: A-DATA Value Series 2GB DDR-800
Someone in the comments of this memory at Newegg said that they had it running on the same motherboard I have chosen. It's also the cheapest 2GB kit of DDR-800 on Newegg.
Video Card: EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT
From what I've researched it seems like the best card I could use considering the price range. This is probably the part of the build that I'm least sure of.
PSU: Antec Earthwatts EA430
I've been told that the Earthwatts are the best bang for the buck.
I'll be using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro to cool the cpu, a 250GB WD HDD, Cooler Master Centurion 5 case, and a Samsung SATA DVD+/-RW. The total at Newegg comes to $719.30 after tax and shipping.
