How would this compare to the 30GB Kingston SSDNow?

I haven't seen any reviews/benchmarks of the Onyx, but it's suppose to be a little slower than the Agility. The sustained read/writes are definitely slower, but the real question is the random read/writes. Considering it uses an Indilinx controller, it should still be pretty good. All the comments I've read from people with SSD's, is, there's really little-to-no practical difference between something like the Agility, Vertex and Intel X25-V.

Thus I'd rather see the prices come down at the expense of performance, rather than ramp up performance along with the price. As long as the random read/writes are decent, I'm good.

word of warning: i'm still waiting on my rebate from an agility drive. according to the OCZ rebate website it was approved over 2 months ago. i know $10 isn't much to risk, but just a heads up to not expect it for a while even if you do everything properly.

Yeah, OCZ's rebates are even slower than Corsair's, but they do come eventually.

You have 1 month to go then. They really do make you wait the full 3 months despite already processing your rebate.

Does anyone really have a "good" experience with rebates? I mean is OCZ really worse than anyone else? My Gigabyte rebate took the full 8-10 weeks or so (after it was approved) as stated on the rebate form. At this point I honestly expect any rebate to take ~3 months (as sad as it is).

If this was an instant rebate vice MIR, I would have jumped on it. Although, I would just go with Fry's 64GB SSD for less than $115, if it was an instant rebate vice MIR!

I have the 60GB Vertex version of this OCZ drive, and I'd have to say, don't get the 30GB. I installed Windows 7 with all the bells and whistles, and Microsoft Office Professional 2007 with all the bells and whistles, plus all the motherboard drivers and McAfee anti-virus and it all used up 20GB of space (I haven't installed my games yet). Getting the 30GB will leave you with 10GB or less for whatever else you need.

By the way, I picked up the Fry's Kingston 64GB SSDNow V Series Drive second-generation SATA2 2.5 SNV425-S2BN/64GB Notebook Bundle for $144.99 - $30 rebate, and a $3.99 2.5" to 3.5" adapter and installed it in my second system. This is the only piece of equipment that is different between the two systems I built (besides the cases), and I have to say, the system with the Kingston boots into Windows 7 faster. The systems were side-by-side and pressing the power button as close to simultanious as possible, the Kingston was in windows 7 and ready a good 5 seconds faster. I have not had time to run any real benchmarks yet, so this is my opinion only, your mileage may vary.
