So here?s the deal, I?m going to Italy for two weeks?YIPPY! For some reason my father is packing twelve suitcases, six with clothes and six with crap?well not crap, but gifts. One of the gifts is seventy pounds of frozen fish, who brings frozen fish over seas? Not to mention the weight limit imposed due to gas prices; how will be getting all this stuff over there? I don?t want to be carrying fish in my luggage, if I get there and the first thing is say is ?what is that smell I don?t want it to be from my bags?. Besides all that, almost all the suitcases are full and there are still 4 people who need to pack for the trip and I still need to bring more pants. WTF, why is he bringing so much unnecessary stuff? Well if anyone has ideas on how I can get all this to travel well give me a holler, I?m going to need all the advice I can get.

Tell him he's a fool and when he doesn't listen to your demand to leave some at home, beat him into submission.

hmmm... i would think that Italy has seafood... being by the water and all.... 😉

someone is going to have to pay a lot of money to ship your luggage. for international flights, they allow you to take 2 pieces of luggage at a max weight of 50lbs. for the most part, which airline are you taking? also, airlines charge a hefty fee for extra luggage / way overweight luggage.

haha have fun trying to get 70 pounds of fish on the plane.....they are gonna laugh at him and call him a fool..........How ridiculous....i think you should smack your father a few times for being stupid......Im sorry but thats the funniest/stupidest (i dont even know how to descirbe it) idea? i have ever heard....i wouldnt even expect that out of my friend ryan not that you know him.....i guess just tell you father its a ridiculous idea....

Just flying from Cali to Colo I got charged $50 because my bag was 54lbs instead of under 50lbs on United.

What are they going to charge for an overseas flight?

Why don't you tell him to pack the fish in a big cooler with some dry ice and overnight it there? It will be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as what the airlines will charge you.

Might be cheaper (given the fees the Airlines charge for excess baggage) to ship the gifts/fish over there, and just pick it up when you arrive.

that reminds me of years ago when my portuguese boss's brother came from overseas. I helped him with his suitcases and was like "this is so heavy! what do you have in here?"
his response "cheese"

then he gave me some cheese for helping.. wtf?!

Usually in the range of $200+ for an overweight bag. The weight limit is 70 lbs. for international IIRC on most major airlines.

That's at least understandable. The USDA restrictions on cheese are quite strict... you can't have any unpasturized cheeses here. Some of the best cheeses in the world are unpasturized, and you just cannot get them in the states. He was probably bringing some otherwise un-importable cheese into the country for his family (probably something they missed from back home). That's my guess anyways.

I check frozen fish on flights all the time, but they're domestic flights, in a cooler with frozen gel packs and the flights are never more than 4 or 5 hours or so. I've never had an overweight cooler though. Although this summer, I'm going salmon and halibut fishing in BC and may have to fly out of Canada with a lot of fish....but that's a problem I'm looking forward to having! 😀

I'd say his best bet is to seal it up in a cooler and overnight it to wherever you're headed in Italy.
