I give mucho kudos to Ford/Jaguar: they used some cool tech to bring out an "Audi-esque" alluminum space-frame, and the car is simply gorgeous.

Thumbs down to Toyota/Lexus: They have the money and the engineering resources to combine their legendary reliability with a true BMW-beating sports sedan line, yet they have failed to do so. They continue to produce land yachts. The IS and GS-series are weak attempts!

If and when Toyota gets its act together and produces a truly capable sports sedan: bye-bye BMW!

I really wonder what the heck would the next GS model look like. I mean, the current model is immaculutly gorgeous... how can you replace something that is perfect? (well, I think the interior would appreciate some makeover).
And what the hell is up with the IS, they are introducing the IS430??? sigh, what's up with this "V8s in entry-level sedans" trend. so a C-55 AMG coupe and M3 with 4.5 V8 is on its way too?

poor VW...

and why can't Lexus offer an option to NOT have grey plastic in the center console on the dash?? Im not doubting its quality...but it sure looks ugly with the grey.

I totally agree with that, grey plastic has got to be the cheapest looking. Black is so much better. They should have tested the VW Phaeton with the W12 engine, maybe it would have scored higher.

I thought the IS430 was only a concept car and would never make it to mass production? I would hardly call the C55 AMG and the M3 entry level sedans though. The S4 also boasts a 4.2 V8 aluminum block.

GS? Perfect? Hardly! But I took look forward to the next-gen version, hoping it has more BMW in it than Mercedes.

IS430? Won't ever go into production. A totally new IS will debut in late 2004 as a 2005 model.

The next-gen M3 will get the 400hp V8 from the last M5. The next-gen M5 will get a 500hp V10. And you forgot to mention the Audi S4 with its 4.2L V8.

Interesting read, definitely interesting in how different they sounded between #3 (BMW) and #1-#2 (Lexus and Jaguar)

It is sad to see that the redesigned S4 (well at least with a new engine) will go obsolete so quickly when the new M3 debuts. It will get interesting as Audi brings the RS4 here though (if it ever makes it here), with it's twin turbo charged V6 3.0 engine...yummy.

Low Blow, I know 🙂 Regardless, I'm still surprised the Lexus won...

and Phateon came second last.

For a brand new lux sedan, you'd expect that their wouldn't be any body stiffness or quiet ride issues (especially in a car weighing north of 5000lbs :Q)

VW has failed😀

Maybe they still have some kinks to work out of the ASF.

Phateon doesn't share the ASF that A8 has. Its full steel.
Maybe they've spent too much time on ASF and forgot how to do steel chassis. 😀
