I finally made my new computer. My last PC is a PII 400Mhz w/ 512MB RAM. I know its an oldie and it has been stable since it was made. Never gave me a problem. I always wanted a new PC and always said" i'll wait for this"....well, I finally plunged on the current technology and figure it will give me good results for a long time. Here is what I got:

CPU: AMD 64 x2 4400+ (2.2Ghz)
Motherboard: MSI Neo4 Platinum (Ultra)
Memory: OCZ Platinum 2GB (1Gb x 2) DDR 400, 2-3-2-5
VGA: MSI 6600 GT
Hard Drive: HItachi T7k250 SATA II drive 250GB w/ NCQ
Case: Antec P180
PSU: Antec Truepower 2.0 550 Watts
Heatsink: Thermalright XP-90 w/ Panaflo 92mm fan and Artic silver 5

I should be getting everything this week and look forward to making it this weekend.

What do you guys think?

I will like to overclock this to a 2.6Ghz chip? Is this easily reachable on stock air? Will my memory give me any problems?

Any input is greatly appreciated....thanks

sweet system except it'll be somewhat bottlenecked by the gpu when gaming, but the 6600gt should run any game releasing in the next year or so easily (prolly longer).

You should be very happy with that system. Your cpu should easilly hit 2.6Ghz and beyond even on a stock cooler, and since your using an xp90, it would do that much better. Just make sure to set your memory dividers. Good luck with the new system!

Looks like a very nice rig,.... just curious though,....with all the coin ya spent, why not pop another $100 on a 6800GT ?

As stated above, the video card isn't bad by any means, but is a little underpowered in comparison to the rest of your system if your a gamer. Also do you need 2 gigs of ddr? If not, maybe settle for 1 gig of ram and apply the savings to a better video card, again if your a gamer. Also check into the Antec psu. The rev 2 430's had an airflow problem IIRC. I'm not sure if that affliction is inherent in the 550. Worth a quick check though.

Enjoy, it's a nice setup.

Im not a huge gamer...if I play games its sports games but no real or doom for me...they get me sick. This is going to be used for HTPC and productivity. The 6600 GT has an onboard decoder that is good for video (purevideo) wich the 6800 GT does not...if it did, I would have gotten the 6800 GT for future proof. Hope im right on that call...!!

Well, I have two X2 chips right now, and I wouldn't go so far as saying "getting 2.6 easy on stock air". I have one at 2560 with an XP90, and the other can hit the same thing, but if I believe the temps, it hits 71c instead of my other 47c, so I leave it at 2400 for now.

LOOKS REALLY GOOD!

burn in your system
first, get used to it
copy of latest or recommended bios on floppy
do you have an installable copy of os?
back up everything
run some benchmarks ou YOUR apps
check pci/ agp lock
check sata lock/ proper connection for oc
follow thread (s) on proper oc for x64
ie
reduce your HT (hyupertransport multiplier)
then set memory divider and find max cpu/ HTT
then reduce cpu multi and find max memory

then find the best of both worlds
memory divider set to give around DDR400 at OC'ed HTT (CPU SPEED)
set HT to max 1000
use Grogans OC Calculator

your results may vary- luck of the draw on cpu
check a forum on your motherboard to see how others faired

after running steady youcould try a minor voltage bump but do'nt overdo it
watch temps on stability tests

Got the 2GB for future proof...i figured...i dont want to be getting another 1GB (and then total of 4 sticks) in the future. The only concern with the memory is that Im not going to be able to OC as well as if I would have gotten the OCZ 1Gb (2x512Mb) Platinum REv2 sticks.

As far as the PSU, the antec case has a seperate compartment for the PSU and HDs so im not too concern with airflow...if its an issue!

Got to go to a meeting now..ttyl

Wow, that's one heck of a jump in performance! (I went from an Athlon XP 1700+ to X2 4400+, so not quite as big) I'm sure you'll enjoy it; be careful, and have fun.

dont worry about your memory speed. using a divider can only drop performance my a couple percent. read the memory matrix sticky.

Im a complete newbie when its about OC because I never done it before. I will have to read first and then venture in OCing. First things first get it running as stock and then do some OCing.
