His paintings fetch thousands and attract buyers from all over the world.

But while his watercolours, pastels and oil paintings hint at a talent honed through decades of practice, Kieron Williamson is barely halfway through primary school.

The seven-year-old prodigy sold his latest collection of paintings for £150,000 at the weekend, with all 33 works sold in just 30 minutes.

Lucky kid. Seven years old, and he knows he can make a living doing what he likes to do, and is already doing it :^)

I'm blown away by the coordination of the colors and tones and how well he differentiates near and far for a 7 year old, not to mention his '3d' landscapes and objects. To think he was simply coloring in pre-drawn dinosaurs two years ago, he's got a pretty bright future to say the least.

Yeah, for a 7 year old this is some mad skillage...only problem is though is whether or not he will continue doing this. I know there are a lot of things I enjoyed when I was 7 that I don't now.

But it is interesting how talented he is...the depth and colors in the paintings show that although he obviously has skill...where did he learn these techniques? I mean, stuff like this I dont think truly comes completely natural...

In retrospect...if what I think is true (that he was taught all these different skills) then is it possible for most/all 7 years old to do this?

I'd argue the opposite; that it's almost totally innate skill. I don't think good art can be taught. You've either got it, or you don't. It just manifested itself earlier in this kid.

Agreed. There's way too many skills involved in creating paintings like that to be able to teach a 7 year old. Spacial and depth, color contrasts, mood, memory and concentration, imagination...I'm guessing that is...

I wouldn't exactly say this is true. I am a very artistic person, have always LOVED to draw and color as a kid (especially in my younger years...thinking like 5 to 10). I was so good that the school (elementary) would have me draw the murals and stuff for Christmas and all the holidays.

Now saying that there was PLENTY that art classes taught me...things that I would say have made me a MUCH better more well rounded artist like drawing techniques, coloring and painting techniques as well as a lot of skills and tricks to all this...a lot of stuff that I have a VERY hard time imagining could be discovered naturally, especially a 7 year old.

The skills and effects shown by this kid, although for the most part may be genuine skill, doesnt mean that some of it could not have been learned and more developed. I know some kids can be complete pro's at shit, but there are some professional artists I know that could only have dreamed of being able to do art work like this, even in college.

So my guess is that this is a very talented and gifted child whose skill has been bettered by teaching.

Either that or the kids a freaking idiot savant and already has a complete understand of depth, dimension, color, etc. naturally without any help from other artists/parents...that I kinda find hard to grasp...

Not bad. Also not what I was expecting from the thread title. Figured it would be like that one 4 year old girl that finger paints abstract blobs and lines and sells them for millions.

That makes sense. It did say his parents drew him dinosaurs to color when he was 5, so they probably have a drawing/artistic background of some sort. If so, once they discovered he's naturally talented, they have probably nurtured his 'brilliance' and with exposure to new ideas.

Like this remarkable one, auctioned for $2k at a fund raiser?

Decent but not THAT great. I was doing paintings like that by 8, 9 at the latest, and look where I am today.

Is he autistic?

And these suck. To not so sound rash, I would say that they are good, but not my kind of thing. I bet the stuff he will do later in life, should he keep painting, be more of my cup of tea.

Art is subjective.

Parents claim he is artistic, not autistic... but I wonder how he is socially. I wonder if he has friends or not. This could point to autism.

Does Kieron have Autism?

'A lot of people try to explain Kieron's talent by suggesting he has autism. Kieron is a normal lad, his growth and development were completely normal. Kieron is just a very focused and determined boy, who chooses to spend his time doing worth while activities, rather than wasting too much time. Kieron is good at his school work too, and enjoys football equally. Kieron does find it hard to switch off and we have to be quite strict when it comes to bed time and chill out time, because he tends to carry on regardless and won't unwind. We try to understand where Kieron gets his talent from too, because neither Keith or I are artistic and noone else in the family are artists. All we can say is that Kieron is a typical Leo, a typical Horse, which is his Chinese horoscope, we chose not to vaccinate the children at a young age, Kieron and Billie Jo also had chiropractic care from two weeks old and homeopathy instead of orthodox medicines. We've always had time for the children, and living in such a tight space as a flat, we have to get on well together. Praise, encouragement and enthusiasm are free, and are things we give in abundance.' MW

I hope for his sake that his parents don't go and blow all the money he's making. If they're good the kid is already set for life. If they're not, he's set for fail.

Bizarre...he's got to be aided or really screwed up in some way or another! Nice to see he's fairly normal, and his parents actually seem pretty normal as well.

Some more from here:

Those are a lot better than the ones you posted in the OP.

The second one (of the last 4) is probably my favorite of them all...amazing. How does a 7 year old possibly have the patience to do something like this.
