That sucks. When do you think games will be taking advantage DX10? Anytime soon?
Depends on your definition of "soon". If that is 4Q 06 or later, then, yes.

Expect it to ship in 2006 . R520 and G70 are said to be DX9L which means they will not operate in Vista at full vista capabilities . In order to get all the features of vista you need the following
1) Dual core CPU
2)2gigs of memory
3)sata hardrives
4)NEW LCD or CRT (old models will work but not in high def.)
5) DX10 GPU R600 G80
Those are the componants required to 0perate Vista at peak efficiency
It is also said that microsoft will treat the release like a consol release with a few game titles available at launch. We will here much more about this in the coming months.
Vista has already been delayed and is late to the party already. So count on a late 2006 release. Glass half full Glass half empty.

games won't use DX10 features till late 07.
Well, with seven different versions evidently slated for release, the largest gap in features appears to be between starter edition and home premium edition. Wether that will also include a jump to DX10 hardware for full functionality though? Those who know for certain,m perhaps aren't permitted to disclose that info to us yet, or at least, I haven't found it. So I'd like to know the source of the info too, and wether it is solid or just an "educated guess"Originally posted by: Gamingphreek

Where did you hear this.
I heard that you must have DX9 to run all the features. DX8.1 will run a limited amount of themes, and DX7 will only run the bare OS.

In an ideal world... But we know that shipping dates for software titles, especially an OS are never on target... Expect it sometime in 2007.
Longhorn/Vista has already been pushed back a number of times. Expect it by the end of 2006. If you'd like to put your money where your mouth is, I'd be happy to cover any bet you'd like to make.
I suppose predicting the release date of Vista is like predicting the release date of R520 a couple months ago. Let's hope it's gonna be winter 06 or spring 07. Looks like my current systems already meets Vista requirement except DX10 video card. C'mon 9800 I need you! (please don't PM me to sell me your ATi 9800Pro)
This is rediculous! I need a DirectX 10 GPU just to run the OS?!? and 2GB of RAM just for that OS?!? Forget about it. Oh, and with Vista you can't play any of your old but still fun (ala GLQuake, Unreal, Quake2 etc.) games because DirectX Next is not compatable with Direct 9 and lower games?!? I'll stick with Windows XP Pro until it is no longer supported by ATI or nVidia thru their drivers.
