Depends on your definition of "soon". If that is 4Q 06 or later, then, yes.

Where did you hear this.

I heard that you must have DX9 to run all the features. DX8.1 will run a limited amount of themes, and DX7 will only run the bare OS.

1) Dual core CPU
2)2gigs of memory
3)sata hardrives
4)NEW LCD or CRT (old models will work but not in high def.)
5) DX10 GPU R600 G80
Those are the componants required to 0perate Vista at peak efficiency
It is also said that microsoft will treat the release like a consol release with a few game titles available at launch. We will here much more about this in the coming months.

Vista has already been delayed and is late to the party already. So count on a late 2006 release. Glass half full Glass half empty.

Ya know when i started to hear of Vista's possible recommended specs it blew me out of the water....you know them ads in gamer/pc magazines where the kid is sitting infront of his computer and it looks like hes being blown away by some great experience (hair blown back and excited grin from ear to ear).....that better happen to me when i power up Vista for the first time, especially after maxing out my creditcard to run the damn thing.

And the whole CRT/LCD HDCP HD thing is a kick in the pants to all who bought a monitor/hdtv without HDCP compliance, sitting there waiting for HDDVD/BLUERAY/HD Broadcasts to catch up with thier tv only to find out their investment shows a big black screen and/or down converted drivel.

This is rediculous! I need a DirectX 10 GPU just to run the OS?!? and 2GB of RAM just for that OS?!? Forget about it. Oh, and with Vista you can't play any of your old but still fun (ala GLQuake, Unreal, Quake2 etc.) games because DirectX Next is not compatable with Direct 9 and lower games?!? I'll stick with Windows XP Pro until it is no longer supported by ATI or nVidia thru their drivers.:|

Well, with seven different versions evidently slated for release, the largest gap in features appears to be between starter edition and home premium edition. Wether that will also include a jump to DX10 hardware for full functionality though? Those who know for certain,m perhaps aren't permitted to disclose that info to us yet, or at least, I haven't found it. So I'd like to know the source of the info too, and wether it is solid or just an "educated guess" :)

In an ideal world... But we know that shipping dates for software titles, especially an OS are never on target... Expect it sometime in 2007.

Longhorn/Vista has already been pushed back a number of times. Expect it by the end of 2006. If you'd like to put your money where your mouth is, I'd be happy to cover any bet you'd like to make.

I suppose predicting the release date of Vista is like predicting the release date of R520 a couple months ago. Let's hope it's gonna be winter 06 or spring 07. Looks like my current systems already meets Vista requirement except DX10 video card. C'mon 9800 I need you! (please don't PM me to sell me your ATi 9800Pro)

You have DX9L and the memory
YOU don't have the required LCD or CRT you don't have the required NCQ HD
The only thing you have to get everthing that vista has to offer is the memory.

Hay guys Vista is not a must have. But if it does for gameing what it suppose to . It WILL be a I GOT TO HAVE.

Vista will play DX9 DX8 DX7 game Titles. IT will NOT except a DX9 video card or older

The fact that its PCI-E Pretty much just leaves DX9 cards out in the cold. G70 is DX9L so it will work.

Now you have this guy thinking that he cant run it!!

Screwface. NONE of that is required. It is recommended for optimal system performance (or speculated to be).

Keep misleading people, and im sure you will be out of these forums in record times!
