I have a 7800GT and all I hear about is that Windows Vista will need DX 10 to see the whole picture.

Will my card accept DX10 or would I have to have a whole new card?

by the time Vista is shipped in 2007, nVidia would have released its 9800 series and ATI with its X3600. Yeah i know the naming will be confusing, but heck i know i can't wait that long before upgrading my XL.

can someone explain to me what this means? if i buy a 7800gtx, will I not be able to use vista with it?

it's like playing DX9 games with a DX8 card, you still can run it just fine, just missing some special effects and features.

Actually ATI will call their card the 10x00 series because the first 2 digits are from the DX series they are made for.

And isnt Vista suppose to ship late 06?

In an ideal world... But we know that shipping dates for software titles, especially an OS are never on target... Expect it sometime in 2007.

Expect it to ship in 2006 . R520 and G70 are said to be DX9L which means they will not operate in Vista at full vista capabilities . In order to get all the features of vista you need the following
1) Dual core CPU
2)2gigs of memory
3)sata hardrives
4)NEW LCD or CRT (old models will work but not in high def.)
5) DX10 GPU R600 G80
Those are the componants required to 0perate Vista at peak efficiency
It is also said that microsoft will treat the release like a consol release with a few game titles available at launch. We will here much more about this in the coming months.

Vista has already been delayed and is late to the party already. So count on a late 2006 release. Glass half full Glass half empty.

The LCD and CRT that are currently out will not run HD on vista . They will work but no HD . Blame that on Holleywood I also made a mistake in first post. R520 and G70 will not operate at full power in a Vista OS. They will run but there will be a speed penalty

Longhorn/Vista has already been pushed back a number of times. Expect it by the end of 2006. If you'd like to put your money where your mouth is, I'd be happy to cover any bet you'd like to make.

It'll work, but it won't be capable of displaying/running all the features.

I suppose predicting the release date of Vista is like predicting the release date of R520 a couple months ago. Let's hope it's gonna be winter 06 or spring 07. Looks like my current systems already meets Vista requirement except DX10 video card. C'mon 9800 I need you! (please don't PM me to sell me your ATi 9800Pro)

That sucks. When do you think games will be taking advantage DX10? Anytime soon?
