Im probably hoping for too much, but does anyone know where in the UK I can get a usb riser (slot with usb sockets on it) to fit an old 7 pin usb socket on an AT mobo?

Im not sure what manufacturer the mobo is, its a via chipset on it, and its a socket7 board with a K6 in it. Ive tried a usb2 add-in card but it wont work, the machine wont boot up till i remove it (tried different slots, disabling bios usb etc etc)

So if anyone knows where in the UK i can get an adapter for an old style header, please let me know

Thanks a lot

7 pin? I bet you miscounted, and that's 9. (You need at least 8 for two USB ports.)

Hi peter, thanks for the reply, no - I definately have 7 pins, one row 4 and one row 3. If it was a normal one then id fit the riser i have spare here, from an abit (with 5 and 4 pin rows), however I cant, its a very old AT board with that strange 4 and 3 config - mebee they use a common ground? I dont know, Ive not seen/found a pinout for it. Just would like to find the header for it so the owner can get his scanner going. Its owner is a pensioner who doesnt have much cash to spare, nor a lot of computing knowledge.

My only other solution is to donate an old S370 mobo and persuade him to buy a £30 celly and a new case for it however he may not be able to afford it and Id like to help him, if only I can find a header for 5 quid.

Now ... what mainboard IS this, then? (Quote the BIOS ID string at the bottom of the screen when you turn it on.)

I've never heard of an AT board with 7 pins on it...weird.

So I am guessing that would be 3 pins for each port and one spare pin.......does this mean there is no grounding? If you know what each pin does then let us know...it may be that a normal bracket will work...so long as it has individual pin connectors.
