7 card stud

I was playing poker on empirepoker.com and was wondering: the max number of players for 7 card stud is 8, but if each player gets 7 cards, that's 56 cards, and there are only 52 in a deck...or am I missing something?

don't forget that some players bring their own cards. :Q

It's very rare that the sitation where there are not enough cards left in the deck to give each player their own river card occurs.
But in this event, the dealer will turn one boardcard face-up and it will be used as a community card.
