7.7 cats are out

lyssword for President!! 🙂

j/k

Thanks for posting this!

EDIT: I just felt like posting this, taken from the release notes:

New Features

This section provides information on new features introduced in this release of the Catalyst? software suite. These include:
New Catalyst? Control Center Avivo features
12X and 24X Anti-Aliasing support for the ATI Radeon? HD 2900 XT and ATI Radeon? HD 2600 Series
New Catalyst? Control Center Avivo features

Catalyst? 7.7 releases a number of new Avivo features and enhancements which optimize video playback and display configuration. These include
Enhanced video color pages with two new color controls1: flesh tone correction and color vibrance
Enhanced video quality pages with easier to use deinterlacing controls and layout
Simplified Theater Mode2 controls, layout and now supporting Windows Vista
Enhanced quick settings for video controls (available through the basic layout in Catalyst? Control Center)
Easy to use display scaling controls2 when outputting to display devices that support TV timings (480i/p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) through either digital (DVI or HDMI) or analog (component) interfaces

1These features are only available on the ATI Radeon? HD 2000 series using Windows Vista.

2These features are only available on the ATI Radeon? X1000 series and HD 2000 series
12x and 24x Anti-Aliasing support for the ATI Radeon? HD 2900 XT and ATI Radeon? HD 2600 Series

This release of Catalyst? introduces support for 12X and 24X Anti-Aliasing for the ATI Radeon? HD 2900 XT, and ATI Radeon? HD 2600 Series. These new Anti-Aliasing settings are available through the new Anti-Aliasing Edge Detect Filter. Selecting 4X Anti-Aliasing plus selecting the Edge Detect filter deliver the equivalent of 12X Anti-Aliasing. Selecting 8X Anti-Aliasing plus selecting the Edge Detect filter deliver the equivalent of 24X Anti-Aliasing.
Performance Improvements

The ATI Radeon? HD2400, HD2600 and HD2900 (single and CrossFire?) can see performance improvements of 13.2% or more in various Far Cry maps.

Anyone got a problem with it? I ran the software uninstall utility and it said that it cannot be initialized, but it still continues to uninstall the driver. Then after I restart the comp it, the ATI folder is still in C Drive, forcing me to manually delete it before I run Driver Cleaner. I was hoping they'd fix this, but I guess they never bothered to fix it since the driver still uninstalls. Finally, ATI Tool can't detect the catalyst version for some reason. The catalyst version is unknown.

Your words of discouragement are no use

i am STILL going to redo all my benches ... to see for myself

i think this one was to fix the "AA" as best they could [something you can't use anyway 😛] and add the new filtering
-7.7 is really quick ... they had 12 days to go.

i really care about Lost Planet and CoJ ...
--CoH ? ... i don't like it ... maybe the AMD guys don't like it either

😀

Sorry man, didnt mean to sink your ship. 🙂

They did add the 16x and 24x CFAA.

I'm not convinced AA is ever going to get fixed. From what i read R600 lacks dedicated AA hardware. R600 performs AA through the shaders and is slower than traditional AA hardware.

Sorry, that was negative too huh?

BS
When the hell is ATI gonna fix this? I'm pissed.

It sure is nice for the red boys to get monthly WHQL drivers. nVidia have bumped up their releases but they still trail ATi. 🙁

I'm sooo tempted to pick up this card just to test the new AA modes. It's not even that expensive.

just don't crank up the fan to 100%

I'm not too sure about the performance of these drivers.

In my limited testing I lost over 200 3Dmarks and about 3 fps in CoH DX10.

These drivers add video features as in watching videos, thats about it..They have improved in that area...More color adjustments
