Local "feel good" politicians driving business away form local small business to the Internet for no reason. What could go wrong?
It's funny that you think a 5 cent bag tax is going to cause anyone to shop elsewhere. A few diehard teabaggers might do it out of spite (or at least claim to do so on the Internet), but no one is going to shop elsewhere to avoid paying a few cents on what is usually a $100+ shopping trip.
Bullshit. As it is the only local store I use is for highly perishables. It's the principle of the matter.
Delivered to my door is better service and better on principle than paying a tax.
Of a fucking bag!
People are the problem , not the bags. Also there are bags on the market that are biodegradable. If you look at who finances the ads and PR for the re-usable bags it is the bag makers.
I agree that people are the problem, but there's nothing wrong with giving an incentive to change. Without any incentive nobody will ever change their habits. I've got to pull plastic bags out of the plants in my front yard multiple times a week. If this makes people less likely to litter with their bags I welcome it.
Thats the last straw. We should make littering illegal. That way it will never happen.
I don't recycle either. Biggest scam there ever was.
Do you live in the ghetto? I've never actually seen paper or plastic garbage blow onto my lawn. It messes with my head when I see a chocolate bar wrapper on the ground because it's such a rare thing to see.I've got to pull plastic bags out of the plants in my front yard multiple times a week. It's a stupid idea, like pissing on a bonfire. It can make people who've driven their 20 mpg vehicle from their climate controlled home feel better that they brought their own hemp bags but fvck's sake it's a joke. The amount of plastic in an actual grocery bag is virtually nil, certainly not even approaching .1% of the total waste a person typically creates.

so i just went to 7-11 to get a couple snacks, and when the transaction was done the lady was just like 'thank you' and didnt put my items in a bag. so i asked her if she could put it in a bag and she was like 'it is now 5 cents for a bag' and i was like 'are you seroius?' and she said yea, but would just give me the bag this time for free.
i was like wtf? i went there yesterday and got a bag and had no mention of it, so i guess it is something they started this new year.
i just thought this was very odd and a kinda wtf thing. more the principle than anything though.

Sweden also charges 20-30 cents. It's probably more effective at that price. 5 cents is really not doing much.

I think Aldi's is about the only store i've ever seen that has things right. not just bags and using their empty boxes. But the forcing of using a quarter to use a shopping cart. It forces the lazy to actually put the damn thing where it belongs. at least so far i've never seen a cart out in their lot.
Only thing that sucks there is cant use CC's and only 1 line open with lots of ppl waiting. trashy ppl i should add. like really trashy, worse than Walmart trashy folk.
