7.0 Earthquake in Haiti

It was centered 10 miles from the nations capital, and apparently a hospital has collapsed, more details to come. An AP photographer reported seeing several houses collapse into a ravine. Currently a Tsunami alert for port-au prince and other coastal cities.

I think the USA should just swoop in and take it over. Set up a new provincial government and police force (don't need a military - who the hell would invade that Hellhole even before?), government services, and industry. Build some Christian churches. Say a Marshall Plan for Haiti. It's embarrassing having such a shitpile country in the New World, we should fix it. Maybe Brazil could help.

Their president is saying based on a rough estimate of what damage might have been done the death toll could hit 100,000. And as you may have guessed, this isn't a good estimate but it's not going to be pretty.

But - but if we annexed Mexico, ObamaPelosiReid (kind of like Manbearpig) would make us shut down all the oil wells that power our nation and WE would be Haiti. And Mexico already has buttloads of churches, Mexicans being a fairly religious people. But I suppose I could give up the nice new Christian churches for Haiti if that's a deal breaker. Not sure if you can have prosperity and all those loua though, it's like LA and the damned vampires.

Reports this afternoon said the airport in Port au Prince is operational so some aid should get in. Major aid probably won't land until there is a larger military presence to guard it.

The most helpful thing most people can give is $ donations, because the humanitarian aid organizations can pool the money to buy & transport emergency supplies in bulk.

I look at it this way: a big earthquake that levels a city is not going to choose its victims. Gangsters and thugs are probably among those who are crushed, trapped in rubble, or dying in the street... being a criminal takes a measure of strength and mental alertness, which are probably in short supply among the victims. I am not that concerned that shellshocked criminals are suddenly going to want to steal plastic tents and rehydration salts.

Any partially-intelligent criminal would use the confusion to loot stores for jewelry, electronics, and money.
