This kid is beyond redemption and needs to be confined for life. He very clearly formed intent. The name Damien comes to mind.

I think people are very rarely born that are not capable of human feeling. Others are undifferentiable from things.

Family says this kid has some kind of acute disability and was working with the school. Why are parents that have this kind of kid be allowed to have a gun in the house?

Both parents should be charged arrested and tried as accessories to attempted murder. They claimed their gun was secure. Do you believe them?

Remember the Auora movie theater shooting where to son took her mother's gun? Was she ever charged?

It really doesn't have to be. American's, generally speaking, like to see themselves as Rambo type characters. As a nation, we have little regard for life.

Being realistic about firearms is the first step. The next is for "strict constitutionalist's" to actually read the 2A. It's super short, and pretty plain text.

On one hand, you say it doesn't have to be.
Then you ask the impossible.
A contradiction.

Yes, we don't have to be human.
But we are.

Reaction from Gov Youngkin shows his priorities.

UVA shooting he called just an "event"
Glenn Youngkin Calling UVA Shooting an 'Event' Sparks Fierce Criticism (newsweek.com)

VA Republicans pivoting to mental health. Did you people remember it was a six year old? The issue was his access to guns not his mental problems. Have the parents been charged yet?
Amid school shootings, legislators work to prioritize mental health, safety (wtvr.com)

Meanwhile do you know what "outrages" Youngkin? Hint: it wasn't a teacher being shot in school
Glenn Youngkin outraged after VA schools withhold national merit awards from top students over ‘equity’ (yahoo.com)

Republicans don't care people are being shot in school. Do busy trying to cancel black history with the nonexistent CRT. This guy ran on the issue schools are failing parents. These same schools were rated #4 in entire country. Parents were completely bamboozled.

BTW - Here's an interesting factoid about VA law.
"Virginia has no laws that require unattended firearms to be stored in a certain way. The state also does not require a locking device to accompany the sale of a firearm, and no state statutes require firearm owners to affirmatively lock their weapons. "

Wanna bet Younkin does nothing about this. Meanwhile he can pivot back to cancelling black history.

Same school where the 6th year old shot his teacher just had another threat from a 5th grader. What should have happened a search warrant looking for any guns in the house and how they are stored.

I bet it didn't happen
A 5th grader at a Virginia elementary school just threatened to shoot up their class. It's the same school where a 6-year-old shot his teacher last month. (msn.com)

Meanwhile the only thing that outrages Gov. Youngkin is CRT which isn't being taught in any of his public schools. Priorities

I’m hoping he doesn’t throw his hat into the ring, he’s scarier than DeSantis or trump.

Looks like a 5th grader not a 5 year old. Still disturbing.

Must have passed the spell checker. I didn’t notice
I have noticed that thread titles exceed the space in which you view them meaning that you sometimes can't see the checker highlighting the misspelled word.

I wonder if it isn't the attention shooters receive in the media that isn't causing school shootings. What could be more appealing to a child suffering from self loathing to escape that torture by validating on national TV he's at least not a nobody but a real monster worthy of the highest contempt. Perhaps, instead, they should spend their time talking about the new national program for bullied children where they can go for help with lots of stories of the children who found self validations again having entered that volunteer program.

I guess one such reason is that no such program exists. And besides, kids don't hate themselves, at least not enough to kill. It's the gun that does that.

My nephew is substitute teaching while he studies for his teaching credential. Just last Friday he's teaching a 9th grade history class and finds a 9mm bullet on the floor of the classroom. Turns it in, and a bunch of cops show up at the school to investigate. Turns out one of the students in the class had a pocket full of bullets but thankfully no gun. Who knows what the hell he was thinking.

I feel like parents do need to be held accountable for these kinds of things. No minor should have access to guns and ammunition unless the parents are supervising them, like at a shooting range. I wouldn't do it even then, but then again I would never own a gun to begin with.

I have a small collection of bullets I have found here and there from the days when I walked my city's streets.

Personally, I think guns and bullets shouldn't be allowed in the public's hands and that their availability to professionals (law enforcement, the military) should be tightly regulated. Same with amateurs (i.e. hunters).

My typo. Sad when shooters between 5th graders and 5 year olds is what we've come to.

Kid being 5th grader is worse. An 11 year old has a greater capacity to carry out a threat then a 5 year old.

Update on this story, a statement from the teacher:

'Zwerner didn’t know it at the time, but her lung had collapsed. Doctors said the bullet could have killed her. She likely survived because she had put up her hands.

“The initial gunshot went through my left hand and ruptured the middle bone as well as the index finger and the thumb,” she said. “The gunshot then went into my chest up here, where it actually still remains. So I have the scar up here. And I still have some bullet fragments up here.” '

Why aren’t the parents in prison yet? If I was that teacher I would sue the district and that family.
