A: Guns are readily accessible in many states. Even in states that regulate storage of a firearm, the responsibility to do so still falls on the firearm owner.

A: Using a single finger like everyone else.

A: Firearms are in tv, movies, music, toys etc....all the way down to cartoons kids have ready access to and the toys we buy them.

Shit man, we even have firearm makers marketing to children.

A: This is America, where rage is an integral piece of many people's lives. It surrounds us.

A: Probably raging.

None of this is surprising in the good ole U.S. of A. - It's 100% expected at this point.
This is one of the greatest posts ever.

Why the fuck do I have to hate it so much…?

Turns out the gun was legally purchased by the boy's mother. Dunno how or if it was secured in the home.

I think we can safely say "it wasn't."

Kid broke in the safe, maybe also got into the ammunition (unless it was stored loaded) loaded the mags correctly, and manipulated all the controls properly. Lots of things had to go wrong here, and boy did they.

One school authority was asked "are there any metal detectors in the school???" The answer was "NO". So now... the next thing is to run 6 year olds coming into the school building thru metal detectors. To install metal detectors in grade schools all across America.

You know what????
We simply have WAYYYYYYYY TOOOOOO MANYYYYY F-ing guns. PEROID!!!!!
We have so many guns in our society, a society that is so totally mentally screwed up.
The elephant is right there in the room, so why deny it? Naturally, 6 year olds are going to have access to a gun because there are so damn many guns.

Mommy has a pistol in the kitchen drawer, dad has a gun out in the garage, mom has a gun in her night stand, dad has a gun under his pillow, mom has a gun in the glove compartment, dad has a gun under his belt, mom has a gun in the bread box, dad has a gun in his golf bag, mom has a gun in the medicine cabinet, dad has a gun in his bowling bag, mom has a gun sitting on every shelf in the house, and so does dad.
And so.... people are actually shocked when a 6 year old finds a gun??????? Seriously?????

From the Washington Post, "Newport News Public Schools Superintendent George Parker III said at the evening news conference that “today, our students got a lesson in gun violence,” and asked for community support to make sure guns were not available to youth. Teachers, he said, “cannot control access to weapons.”"

That part about learning a lesson bothers me so much. These kids didn't learn anything. They were traumatized. In an article I read today (1/9/23) one kid says he doesn't want to go back. Parents are asking for more security, as if that has or will really helped. The governor, Glen Youngkin, says he's gonna "push for police officers in schools and tougher penalties for crimes committed with guns, while acknowledging such efforts would not apply to a 6-year-old.

This country is really screwed. No putting the genie back into the bottle, unless we can collectively agree to give up a majority of the guns. After Sandy Hook and the lack of concern, I guess it's not going to happen ever.

Just think about how much god damn money this country spends to protect us from guns. Everywhere has to have security and metal detectors. We arm our police like they are going to war. We let our police shoot first and ask questions later because of the high likelihood the person they are dealing with has a gun. We make our elementary school kids do lock down drills. Most big companies do active threat training. It is absolutely maddening the amount of inefficiencies guns bring to our society. This is before we even get into the cost of lives lost.

Throw the parents in prison.
It was not just left accessible, it was left with one in the chamber. No way in hell a 6 year old could pull the slide back.

a 6 year old can certainly operate a semi auto pistol. I won’t say all can, but it’s not a crazy thing to envision

combine that with how people raise their kids around guns openly and this whole scenario is not hard to see coming.

As a non US citizen, I'm curious how can it not be clear to you what the statistics say. USA gun crimes vs.... any developed country.

The only one that has guns availible at the groceries store, versus all other

America is truly exceptional! The rest of the industrialized world combined can barely sniff our shit when it comes the availability of guns and the willingness to use them. Freedumb has that special gun powder smell you suckers!

We strive to be #1 at everything. And there we are #1.

On a serious note, fuck guns. I've mentioned it in other related gun threads, but my brother in law was shot and killed on xmas eve with a stolen gun. So fuck guns.

It's amazing how this is like the 4th relevant thread since like December 28th that I have posted this. We've had that many threads about gun death threads in less than 2 weeks. But yeah, we don't have a gun problem here...

I'm at a loss. How could this happen?
We have had so many thoughts and prayers! Certainly enough praying to fix this issue by now!

It is almost like praying does not fix problems?

I'm sorry. That discriminated against people's religious freedom.
I guess we should give praying it away one more chance! Maybe this time it will work!

You are so right. It's about like thinking the answer is banning ownership of guns. Just another whistling in the dark self congratulatory fixation rationalizing away the real problem, that the structure of our society creates high levels of fear and hate but the successful in that society will do anything like praying or passing gun laws rather than deal with their own hatred. The last thing anybody wants to know is the source of that hate.

Also remember the people that push the idea that more guns will decrease violence are the same people that thought more COVID was the best way to end the pandemic.

So can an argument be made for those cases?

For billions of years one life from has been food for another. Viruses survive by infecting a host. Hosts survive by developing viral immunity. Viral pandemics have always ceases when there is sufficient presence of genetic resistance in a population to provide herd immunity. Covid would be no different but for the fact that human intellect has reached a degree that other forms of protection can now be created. That is made possible because of our understanding of and capacity to manipulate genetics. We can now understand a lot of how it is that we evolved to fight disease and can improve on it scientifically.

Guns were in our future the first time we picked up a rock and threw it at something. Tribal warfare has created the race for technological superiority. So called military style weapons are all the creation of technologically creative private individuals for sale to other individuals where the military adapts it later.

If your dream amounts to putting a break on technology, that is not something I would recommended in a tribal world where technological inferiority can lead to extinction, by power driven tribalism.

This is all the librul Demoncrats' fault. If that teacher had been armed...as God intended......
The lack of background checks and gun show loopholes allowed this child to purchase that gun. We need more commonsense laws.

We do, you just decided to point out the wrong laws. We need laws about securing guns. It is my hope that the mother of this child is charged with some felony over this. It was her gross negligence that lead to this tragedy and people need to know that if they mishandle a firearm they will be held responsible for the outcome.
