I don't know what to do. I've installed the latest drivers for the card, the latest BIOS for the motherboard, reinstalled 3dmark several times. here is the rig:

Athlon 64 3200+ (newcastle) @2.5GHz
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
512MB PC3200 kingston 2 x 256
80GB Seagate
eVGA 6800GT @410/1152 (tried the default settings as well, no go)

Help me please. I put the GT in my other rig, got 10xxx at default speeds:

2.4C @ 3.14GHz
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
1GB PC3200 Mushkin Dual Channel
80GB Seagate
eVGA 6800GT @ default

Hi,

I believe that board uses a Via Chipset. Did you update the Via Hyperion drivers (or whatever they call them these days)?

I'm using the same overclocked A64 CPU on a MSI NEO and a BFG 6800GT OC(370mhz) at get around 12,000 in 3dmark03.

Make sure all the sliders bars in the NV control panel are all the way to the left. Basically everything should be set to optimal performance.

How in gods name did you get all the way up to 2.5ghz with the K8V??? Is there a beta bios to enable pci/agp lock?? I can't even touch that, going past 2.4 will corrupt windows.

Are you sure you installed the VIA motherboard drivers correctly? They are a pain in the butt to get right... this is how I always install them with a fresh OS install...

Remove all excess or turn of any on board components you don't need initially. Like sound cards, nic's or whatnot.

Instal OS but don't run any updates.

Install the newest VIA drivers after a fresh clean install. Make sure that no specific drivers are loaded before the VIA drivers (this is a big thing).

I always reinstall the AGP drivers on top of the VIA drivers. I know it's overkill but sometimes I get corruptions otherwise, it's wierd. Doesn't mean you'll get them.

Then install your service packs or OS updates.

Then install directx

Then install your vid card drivers.

Now put back in all the components and install the drivers for those.

I used to get really piss poor performance with VIA chipsets before I found this order out. Now I don't buy anything with the via chipset anymore because of that. With everything fresh and done in order your performance should improve dramatically, mine always did.

As others have stated above, you could also have AA/AF turned on or something else that is compromising performance.

Really though, VIA chipsets SUCK. There was a time they were the best you could find but that time has long since past.

Maybe it's the chip, this one seems to overclock with no problem, I got it to 2.58. Did not try to go higher, but everything was running pretty stable at the above.

I usually wouldn't use VIA anything, but I got this combo together. Hmm...I'll probably start over as you said, but first I want to try some other things.

starting over seems a bit exessive, you probably just don't have your motherboard drivers installed.

I feel embarassed, after about 4 years of messing around with PC's, I forgot to install the motherboard drivers . Well I tried to install them, but after everything I've done XP wouldn't even load, so it's reformat and fresh install time. Thanks for the help, I'll let you all know how it goes.

Where is vsync? I've heard this before.....

In your display settings, you may need to disable for both OpenGL and Direct3d, should be in the NV Control Panel

Vsync limits frame rates to match your refresh rate. This can lower your overall FPS and therefore throw off your benchmarking scores, same with AA and AF Forcing.

Anyone know if manually changing settings in the NV control panel (like AA, etc) overrides whatever the settings of games are set to? For instance, if you set the control panel to use AA at 4x, but the game as 2x, will it still run at 4x?

Well, I found out several issues over the past 2 days. The first is that the board does not like my kingston ram, it will work fine with one dimm, but add the second restart city. The second thing is that VIA boards suck.

I finally got eveerything to work, but I had to add my mushkin to the system:

Athlon 64 3200+(Newcastle) @default speeds
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
1GB Mushkin (2 x 512MB)
eVGA 6800 GT @ default speeds

10690 3dmark03

835 CPU

Now time for the overclocking......

Athlon 64 3200+(Newcastle) @ 2.42GHz
Asus K8V SE Deluxe
1GB Mushkin (2 x 512MB)
eVGA 6800 GT @ 414/1147

12402 3Dmark03

926 CPU

This was on the 61.77 drivers

12,402 sounds more like it. My system (specs included below) gets 11,855 in 3DMark03 with my 6800 GT overclocked to Ultra speeds. I bet your computer runs Doom 3 like its goin' outta style.

I'm glad my suggestions helped you out there deldd. Yah, VIA sucks big time which is why I will never buy another board with their chipset in it again for a performance system. If I'm building a budget system, and I mean real budget system then I might, but I would have to look at all the variables. If you get a chance upgrade to a better board.

Personally, I'm holding out for the DFI nforce3 250 board that is suppose to be released today! yay! I'm going to give it a month or so and see what everyone thinks but the beta hype about it has peaked my interest. By the time I want to buy it, the price should have come down and the next wave of price cuts on the AMDs should go through. Win/win situation to me.
