I have an Acer 6x4x32a CDRW. Now I've heard of many instances where cd burners in this speed range have been able to attain higher speeds simply by flashing the BIOS to that of the model up. (for instance 4x becomes 6x, 6x becomes 8x, etc.) I've heard of Yamahas doing this as well as others that I don't recall, but now I'm curious about mine. I checked out what I could, and it's identicle to the 8x model with the exception that mine has a 2mb buffer and the 8x has a 4mb buffer, but my write buffer never drops below 93% as is. Any info on how to go about doing this would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Why not flash to the firmware of a 12x10x32 then?;)

Acer drives may look the same but every model is made by a different manufacturer,Acer doesnt make the cdrw drives other companies do & they simply Rebrand them & sell them as Acer.

hmmm...thanks for the input, guys. 6 to 8 is small enough a jump where the hardware may be able to handle, and according to Acer's specs I beleive they are manufactured by the same company. (although I may be wrong) If I had the $$ for 16x, I'd be all over it believe me! Besides, if I hosed it, maybe I'd have an excuse to go out and buy a 16x or maybe on of those rebadges Plex's, the 12x10x32 iomega. ;-)

Hmmm...so far it's a no go. The CDRW's BIOS was smarter than a stump (not proggrammed by MS obviously.. ;) ) and would not allow itself to be flashed with the 8x revision. NEbody know where I can get a utility to allow this?
