Anyone want to speculate on the release of a new iPod Touch?

If they are serious about getting people to adopt the watch, they'll need to account for the fact that not everyone who is interested in one will have an iPhone. Sales of the iPod line have slid quite a bit, but with Apple Watch and fitness applications I think it could be a more valuable asset to Apple with these features.

If Apple doesn't refresh the iPod lineup this fall (as many analysts are saying), what about next year? This could make sense if Apple wants to test the waters of the wearable market with their iPhone customers, then if successful, perhaps broaden their customer base with iPod compatibility in the future.

From iPad thread:
I wonder how many people will be carrying their iPads around for TouchID payment.

Another good use for a new iPod Touch. I could see a commercial of a jogger with music playing. She stops at a beverage vending machine, hits pause, points her iPod at the machine and gets a refreshing drink.

The new iPod touch needs an Apple A6. The current A5 is too slow for iOS 8, at least for a brand new product IMO. The A5 is on its last legs, performance wise.

Touch ID would be nice, but it's not guaranteed. Also, will Apple Pay work without internet access? I know RFID credit cards do not need net access, but with the extra security involved with Apple Pay, is the protocol significantly different in this regard?
