I never thought I would see a 50" 1080p plasma for less than a grand, much less $700. I wish I could drop the cash I would be on this.

For the TV gurus, how much of a difference are we talking over a typical budget-ish 1080P LCD (i.e. my Vizio)? I've been toying with the idea of picking up a plasma when I have the spare cash..looks like prices are getting down to the 'very tempting' range.

Simply moving from LCD to plasma (aside from the power, weight and brightness drawbacks) will be a big step up. Moving from a Vizio to this Plasma will be night and day.

I moved from a mid-range Samsung LCD last month to an LGPK550 (comparable quality to this model) and would never go back. I think this Panny has an anti-glare coating which is a big plus for plasmas. I paid $850 at the time and got a free blu-ray, so this deal is pretty smoking.

Edit: nvm, this model doesn't have the Panny anti-glare coating. Good deal still...

You know, if you have Amex, you just wait till it pops up on the "Daily Wish" for $497 or some price close to that.

Also, this thing is like a mirror in a room with any light.

And to think this isn't that much lower quality set than my Kuro at < 1/3 the price...

I'm not here to crap in this thread, but it is nowhere near even an 8G Kuro. It is an older low end model and not even part of Panasonic's NeoPDP line.

But if you are looking for a cheap 1080p plasma from a quality manufacture, this may fit the bill.

It is great for Cable/Satellite TV and Sports. If you are gonna soley Blue Ray and look for every pixel of difference while watching TV. Not for you.

I sit 5 feet away in the basement at my computer. It is my Sports TV. I am not a fan of mid priced LCD/LED 120hz TV's and sports. Can't stand the way grass looks with football, soccer and baseball.

FYI this is last year's model, and the U series is definitely the budget line. I bought a 50" S1 in January for $899 and couldn't be happier. I would buy a smaller S series rather than buy anything lower. As mentioned, the U series isn't part of the line that shares parts with the high-end models, while the S series is. This is a pretty good price, just be aware of what you're buying.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the S series, last year and this year's models both have the "AR" anti glare coating. I may have to look at plasmas now. I made a vow not to spend more than $1000 a couple years ago for a 42-50'' tv. My 32'' lcd from a few years ago isn't bad but quality could be better in screen and overall build is average.

IF this had a PC input I'd bite. I'm waiting for 6Ave to get the TC-P50G25's back in stock. They had them for $950 ish a week ago.

Enjoy!

I bet you're going to wait until it's out of stock again before you post back with something like "Aww shucks! I so wanted this but it's outta stock now. Dammit!". :D

LOL, tempting deal. I bought the Best Buy Insignia 42" plasma and love it, especially consdiering it was only $399 plus tax. It's only 1024x768? resolution though, which is good enough for watching TV but I don't know about gaming on it? That Viera would be fun to game on!!

Can't you just buy a DVI to HDMI converter plug for like, $10?

They can really suck. I had one and the 1080 resolution just didn't look right. Ended up getting a card with native HDMI on board and all is good.
