6pin Auxilary required?

I recently purchased a replacement power supply online and noticed that it does not have an auxiliary power connector like the old one had. Do you know if this connector is needed or should it still be able to work without it?

The answers I have found online have been pretty mixed. Some people think they are required while others say they are just needed in certain situations. I guess I could splice the matching wires with the old connector, but it seems like a risk if it is not needed.

Thanks.

What kind of motherboard are you using?

Whether or not you need a 6-pin AUX depends on if you need a 6-pin AUX.

Is it a Xeon board or something?

I am using a Gateway Intel (Lexington 2) Motherboard for a 2.26GHz P4.

The board did use the auxiliary connector from the old power supply, but since the old power supply was 250W and the new one is 380W, I was not sure if this just got phased out as the wattage increased.

Here are links to the old and new power supply if it helps.

I would just return it for one with the auxiliary connector to be safe, but I doubt newegg takes returns for non-defective items.

No. Because a PSU is higher wattage doesn't mean a connector is phased out.

There are power supplies out there with the 6-pin AUX. You might want to locate one.

Since your system was released there have been some changes in the specifications for PSUs. Your old PSU falls under version 1.3 of the ATX PSU Specification. The new one you got is probably a version 2.0. As power requirements for systems change so will the PSU spec but your system still needs the 6 pin aux.
