6pin and 6+2pin difference?

Hi, I'm planning on buying a new psu, and long story short, my graphics card (amd 7800hd) needs 6pin, but most of the new and compatible with my rig psu's have 6+2pins.
My question is - can I plug 6+2pin into 6pin slot (leaving additional 2pins unconnected)?

yes, that's exactly why it's 6+2 pin and not 8-pin
