Ok tomorrow my ISP starts new pricing for high speed internet and the top of the line is 54 bucks a month, this is a 13 dollar a month increase over what I pay now and I was wondering is it really worth it to pay 54 to get the so called 10 mbps. I play WoW mostly and of course they advertise the highest priced as the online gaming connection. My question is simple do I really need the top of the line or do you think I can get away with the 6 mbps at 44 bucks and be fine, Time Warner is the company making the changes.

If it's like Comcast it will double the upload speed which might be the real benifit. I've got the 6m & they offer 8 for $10 more but doing tests on Toast.net I've never seen over 5, it's usually around 2-4 so I don't see the need to give them any more money for more horsepower I won't use. They'll bump the rates up soon enough anyway.

Comcast was the ISP then Time Warner took over for them and from what I can tell they use Road Runner. I had a feeling this is marketing and being done to get more money from people without actually seeing any hugh performance increase, thats why I thought I would ask here my gut tells me to stay with the 6 but I sure would like some more feedback.

6mbps is more than enough for gaming, it's the upload you need to check just like was stated...Ask yourself if you're happy with your current connection while playin WoW...

Wow requires 5k or so a second for most things. Maybe a bit more for PVP or raiding. even the super cheap slow dsl is more then sufficient.

for many people this would be a large speed increase. if you are dealing with large ammounts of data, like audio, video etc on a regular basis, this would make a lot of sense.

just doesnt make any sense at all for a gamer.

Keep in mind that 10Mbps is a marketing number, not much more. You are eventually sharing your provider's bandwidth out to the Internet (i.e. buying a 100Mbps connection to the Internet, they would probably pay 35-40 bucks per Mbps themselves-- you do the math) with everyone in their network and then you're subject to sharing the bandwidth of whatever server you're trying to get to and every link in between.
