The title says it all-in multiplayer 6990 quadfire always crashes in BF3 in under 20 minutes. It's not like BF3 is a very new game it seems that AMD has decided that anyone stupid enough to buy two of their top of the range cards is a moron and deserving of no support. I'm pretty sure they've got rid of their entire driver team to streamline their operation. I'm not the only one dealing with yet another AMD routine driver f**k up. Their tardiness is rapidly transforming me from a fanboi to a hater of all things AMD. Haven't played BF3 multi before and it looks like AMD are really hoping I don't buy their high end again as of the three games I enjoy playing only Arma 2 actually works with quadfire whereas Skyrim only uses one card and BF3 crashes consistently.

That's what you get for being so rich, you evil drug lord. :sneaky:

That said, it's probably not a hardware issue if your heat is down. Cfx has always been buggy.

Does one card work ok in BF3? You have already stated that both cards cause the crash. InfoTiger was asking if it works ok with a single card?

Yes for only $2000.00, if you can find them. And if you do they're more than MSRP.

No problem. 1 GTX 690 would give him better performance than he is getting out of his shitty scaling 6990 quad.

Besides he obviously could afford 2 anyway if he could afford 2 6990's

The HD 6000 series had better scaling than the GTX 500 series. It was only just recently that Nvidia updated SLI scaling.

HD 6990s are stronger than every other card but the GTX 690. Stop acting like they suck, especially if the person uses the cards for something other than gaming. Duel 6990s would earn around $100 a month currently in Bitcoins.

My Heavens! Running 2 6990s??? He probably owns the Power Company! Seriously, Jacky60, you have every right to be PO'd. Have you been in contact with AMD's tech support? What do they say? (I hope it isn't "sorry buy a 7970!). I would contact their tech support and have someone help you get that corrected. Is it possible that your PSU is dying?

- If I was going for a cutting edge uper power draining system like yours, no offence, i would have sought proof of concept on the interweb before building. You could be looking at a number of things, from PSU (nr.1) to drivers (nr.2) to heat on the cards(nr.3), heat everywhere else(nr.4) .. and everything in between (nr.5).

Jacky60, I was calculating your power draw with extreme PSU calculator and I come up with at least 925 watts draw. I know your PSU is 1250 but I wonder if all of your components running full bore in BF3 is exceeding capacity?

You are running that shit on

"Hanns.G 28in Monitor"

Are you getting 10000 fps for those 20 minutes ????

- As I said, number 1 suspect.

C'mon let's not be mean! I have that same monitor for my rig 1 below and love it (price was right and I had gift cards to buy it).

Sounds like a solution then, sell the 6990's to a bitcoin miner and get 1 690!

I have one GTX 570 powering BF3 on a monitor similar as yours (I-inc 1920x1200 27.5inch)... and it runs flawless... if you can return your 6990s do so and get something that runs your game if you play BF3 alot...

Uh, how's your case cooling? Those cards get hot so if you're BSOD'sing after 20 minutes of gaming HEAT IS LIKELY your cause. Lemme guess....your Top 6990 gets hot to the touch after 20-30 minutes yes? While AMD drivers have issues, I highly doubt thats the case here. Especially with the symptoms you describe.

Also : PSU, crossfire bridge. Don't overclock.

But i'm pretty sure its heat related if symptoms pop up after 20 minutes. You have to REALLY improve your case airflow for a dual setup like that, I've been there....took me forever to get lightning 580s working in SLI because of HEAT.....top card was ALWAYS 20C hotter than the bottom.,.....and i'd get BSOD's after 30 minutes of gaming without fail. I had to put 2-3 more 120mm fans in my case to get it working well.

Well thanks for your 'advice' I didn't buy the rig solely for BF3 and it isn't heat anywhere. Neither card gets above 75C and the case is very well ventilated and cool. The CPU doesn't get over 68C. The PSU is one of the best you can get and easily handles the load (try doing some research on the interweb) so that narrows it down somewhat. The power usage means I don't need a heater in my gaming room in May as I live in England not Texas or Saudi Arabia. Don't get me wrong its a great rig and would destroy most people's I just think AMD and Nvidia to some extent both don't spend very much time or effort catering for the very high end (witness recent 680/7970 problems in tri/quad fire/sli scaling) due to the very few people willing to spend that much money for what is in the main a great gaming experience (80-130 fps with Vertical sync on everything maxed to the max on 64 player bf3 multiplayer before it crashes).

I have 4 high performance 120mm fans blowing in from the side plus the rest of the normal case cooling plus an extra 120mm fan jury rigged very close to the side of the cards blowing in through the gap between them and it crashes all the time in under 20 minutes every time I get a kill (which sometimes takes a while). I don't get bsod it just stops responding and monitoring temps with afterburner tells me neither card gets over 70-75c. They do get really hot if I don't enable vsync and went to 95-100C without crashing before I realised I was cooking them a while back. I therefore can't see them being much troubled by 75c.

AMD/EA know of the problem http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=358292 they just aren't fixing it.
