6970 vs 1050TI

Hi. I use my pc for gaming and i have a 6970 2GB. I play mostly fps and sport games (Overwatch, CoD, PES2018, NBA2K18 etc) always at 1920x1080. I can buy from a friend a 1050TI 4GB for ~100 euros. Do you thing its a good upgrade for the money or not? Should i buy it or pass? Thank you.

Huge upgrade. 6970 hasn’t aged well unfortunately, but It can hang in some newer less graphically demanding titles.

It is definitely a good upgrade. The question is, how much are other 1050Ti's going for in your country? If it seems like a good price, then go for it, assuming it is in your budget and you cannot find a deal on a better GPU like an RX 580 or GTX 1060. Either way, big upgrade.

That's a really good price for a 1050 Ti. Theoretically speaking, the 6970 is similar in performance to a 7850 and 7870, so not that far off of a 1050Ti. However, driver support for anything pre-GCN has ceased for some years now and as such, these cards have not aged well at all, so it's really being left behind in titles from the last 2-3 years. Not to mention the extra 2GB VRAM really helps and you have yourself a great upgrade.

The 1050 Ti can regularly match or beat the 7970GHE while consuming something like 60% less power, so it's really no comparison to the 6970 - stick with the 1050 Ti. You also get full acceleration of every video codec and resolutions up to 8K, HDMI 2.0 DP1.4, HDR, better DX12/Vulkan support... the only thing you would actually lose would be native analog output, if that even matters to you.

My 6870 is sitting in a box, having been joyfully replaced by a 750 Ti.
