It goes to 95C whenever i'm playing intensive games like witcher 2/metro 203
is it safe? should i manually turn up the fan speed instead of letting it run auto?
My 6970 ran just as hot even after I replaced the thermal grease with MX4, three different times. 80-90C was normal for GPUs released in the early/mid 2000's but anything above 90C was out of my comfort zone. VRMs regularly sat at 115C. Sold it after a month as I wasn't comfortable with those temps when I upgrade once every 2 years.
For starters don't let it get above 85c...My 5770 started getting around that range not to long ago. It needed thermal compound. You only have two options send it back or break the warranty and apply the compound. But before taking all that in set the fan to 80 and see what happens

How long have you had the card(s)?
Has it always run this hot?
Are you O/C'ing?
What case do you have?
Have you tried anything already to correct it? (Cleaning dust bunnies out of cooler?)
Are all of your case fans working?
You haven't given us much to go on. 6970's run in the 80's anyway. Crossfire will make the top card run hotter. Is it the top card?
