6950 unlock

Hello

So i want to unlock my 6950, but just have a question before i go ahead. What is the correct way to this, i've heard there was a few ways to do it where one of them had the potential to fry your card. Is it true that i should flash the bios with the 6970 os is there another way to go around it.

I don't know which card you have, but I read that the Sapphire ones will usually unlock simply by changing the BIOS, via a little switch somewhere. You might need to read a bit more on it, maybe somebody else knows more about this, but I would try that first, seems like the easiest thing to do anyway. BTW - There is no guarantee that you can unlock it!

When I did mine, there was a script available that unlocked the extra shaders without using a 6970 bios (which can cause cards to fry due to increased voltage). I'm not sure if this method still works.

the important thing to remember when unlocking is to only use YOUR bios, but use Radeon bios editor to unlock shaders. This way you are not overclocking or overvolting your vram, that is where most issues occur.

Download radeon bios editor, GPUz, and ati winflash. first, save your bios with gpuz, and back it up. next, edit it with RBE to unlock shaders. there should be a simple checkbox option for this under the latest one. next, flash the modded bios to the card and restart!

also recommend increasing max power usage in CCC and testing for stability.

I found a script on another site where i should save my cards bios named original.bin and then the script modded it, then i used ati flash and loaded the bios onto my cards, now the shaders are unlocked and the memory speed and core speed were at the same as before. guess that is the right way to go about it right?

ya, and now you can OC the cards yourself if you desire using software.

I know my cards alot different 5770. ocd to 960/1440 fan set at 90 runs about 82-84 but at that oc I run a 20inch box fan next to it lmfao just to drop the temp a little more
