Cant decide which way I should go. 5770 CF may be cheaper, depending on the price I get em at. But is it worth it? Just how much of a difference will there be?

Tried to find AT bench, but don't see 5770 CF.

Either 6970 or 6950. Going 5770 in crossfire is going to a dead end. Although you could end up with pretty good performance, a 6970 should be better in all cases.

The 2 gb ram on the 6970 and most 6950s is also great for higher resolutions, aka 2xxxX1600 or so.

the 6xxx is also a newer and more polished architecture and should last you longer in any case compared to crossfired 5770s.

Now: What resolution do you game at?

Well, consider also that whatever you go for, there will be a new generation of cards available before the end of this year. This generation is being produced at 28nm, and will likely be the biggest jump in performance since the 4870 -> 5870.

IF i were in the market for high end cards, id take that into consideration.

So if money is any concern, i wouldnt upgrade yet. If its not, id go with a 6970 or a 560ti. Both of those have great performance solo and can be Crossfired later to provide a hefty boost in performance if you choose to go that route. The second card you add is likely to be way cheaper in say 6 months when the new generation of cards is out.

Its not easy.. Perhaps a compromise is to buy a used card of the 460 1gb OC caliber, or the 6850/6870 caliber. Those should be found at around a 100$ and under, used.

I had Xfire 5770s and went with a 6950 1GB and have noticed many improvements (1080p). Like he said, he 5770s are a dead end.

Get a 6950. The 6970 is only ~12% faster than the 6950 yet costs way more.

Is the XFX 6950 1 GB on newegg any good? It has a wide mix of negative and positive ratings. The lifetime warranty is a plus but does anyone have a view on it?

Why not grab the HIS 2GB 6950 for $249 - $20 MIR? The XFX warranty is great, but a little overhyped. Who keeps a video card longer than two years (warranty by most manufacturers) anyway and, if they do, it's a pretty good bet that if it's worked for those two years it will continue to work until the next upgrade.
