6950/6970 1gb

279$ 6970's 1gbs (which means the 6950 1gbs will be cheaper still).

Im thinking the 6950 1gb will be priced very close to the 560, so there is a alternative in the same price range. The stuff about more factory overclocked cards comeing doesnt sound so bad either.

That is a very aggressive price. For the 6950 1GB to fit in there is going to need to be some movement on 6870 prices as well.

From what I have heard the 1GB 6950 will go for around $249. If that's true ATI will have a big winner on that price point and performance....I just ordered the 6950 2GB myself for $300...

A $100 price drop is going to hurt AMD's own sales of their 2 gig models, let alone Nvidia. Everyone is going to have to drop prices.

That's a huge price drop. For those gaming at 1920x1200 or below, HD6970 for $279 is going to be the best card. It's going to be interesting if NV can still price GTX560 at $280 now considering HD6970 is as fast as the GTX570.

I think this price drop is either too good to be true (meaning it's a misunderstanding and the 6950 is what is going to be $279) or the entire cayman lineup will be getting a price drop, which is great news for consumers but probably bad news for AMD. If there is that big of a price delta between the 1 and 2 gig models no one will buy the hd6970 and hd6950 2 gig cards, and if there is a decent price drop this soon since cayman was introduced, that means they aren't selling that well. Either way it doesn't paint the best picture for what is going on with AMD's pricing/sales from a business standpoint.

But like I said, if these prices are accurate it's simply going to force the entire high end lineup down. Bring it on!

*assuming the rumours are true*

And will people buy the GTX580 and GTX570?

AMD has a smaller die. They also have better yields due to that alone. And these new 1GB models will have as much or less memory as the GTX5x0 line-up.

Maybe they can force a price war.

I guess that means the GTX570/580 is a much more desirable product than the GTX470/480 that were unable to force significant price drops on the 5870/5850.

How is that bad lol.

6950 1 GB at $249, if it launches along side a GTX 560 is going to rain on it's parade. I know for a fact though that nVidia is going to respond right away for everyone wins .

None of this is bad for consumers. There was no mention of an hd6950 1 gig anywhere, but there was talk about overclocked hd6870's for $250. Given that, I don't see any room in AMD's lineup to price an hd6950. And, call me skeptical, but even with price drops among the 2 gig cards, the $279 price point for an hd6970 1 gig is telling me that it won't outperform the 6950 2 gig.

This could be great news if it pans out! I'm going to be picking up whichever card offers best price/performance in the category, so I really hope this Ati pricing is correct.

This reminds me a little of the 4850 launch, when Ati started selling 4850's for $199 that outperformed 8800GTX's that were still going for $349+.
