The 6850 is excellent for light gaming. It's right there in the middle ground.

A AMD 6850 is like a Nvidia Geforce 460 1gb... maybe 5% faster or so.

There is no question, it will handle starcraft2 np (mostly a CPU bound game)
and Minecraft doesnt really requires anything either.

Haha, yeah.

I also plan on playing FPS, like CoD and such

I dont care if i dont get 50 fps. i just want decent gameplay

decent as in 20~30 fps on everything besides all those GPU intensive games (*cough* Witcher 2 *cough*)

would it be worth to go up to the 6870?

Right now the 6850 and 6870 are so close in price that the 6870 makes more sense, unless you're constrained by space or your power supply (say 400w or under). The 6870 is about 20% faster.

okay. ill look into that

The actual difference between the 6850 and 6870 is probably more like 15-17%: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/291?vs=290. My 20% figure was off the top of my head.

Either way, at about the same price, the 6870 is an obvious choice. Here are some representative models in the XFX and Sapphire lineup, for instance, where the two cards are $5-10 apart after rebate:
