6850 and 5770 heat usage at load and idle similar?

The stats i've seen show that both cards are pretty close to each other in terms of heat.

6850 powercolor passive
5770 gigabyte passive

I'm considering between the two but need to confirm that power consumption at idle and load are similar. If so, i will go the 6850 route. if it's not the case, i will go 5770. Thanks for any advice

So given that i don't game too much but i do want to try out some games on max on 1920x1200. since they are similar in terms of heat i should probably go for the 6850?

Yeah, go with the 6850. You'll need the extra grunt to max out some games, and your system can definitely handle the little bit of extra power and heat.

I second the 6850 over a 5770, though don't expect to max out every game out there at 1920 by 1200.

That's true, I have a 6950 2GB with a 2500k @ 4.4 w/8GB, and some games get a little less smooth than I would like if I crank absolutely everything to the max. And I use a Samsung 1920x1200 screen.

Edit : I jumped from 5770 1GB to 6950 2GB, and the performance jump at this resolution was profound. I would still imagine the 6850 to be considerably improved over the 5770 though.

I jumped from a GTX 260c216 which is similar to a 5770 in performance up to a 6870 and the difference at 1080p was quite nice. It won't max everything out, but I didn't expect it to. Sometimes you just gotta tweak the settings a little. You'll find that certain options really drop the frame rate while adding little improvement(ubersampling in the witcher 2 for example).
