Just took my notebook to Best Buy (extended warrantee from them) for the following repairs. 1. Cracked hinge, 2. CDRW/DVD ROM quit recording, 3. Battery loses charge even when not being used, 4. Have had to use the restore cd's 3 times due to something weird happening with my hd. It goes into a clicking noise every so often and sometimes doesn't come out of it... Then out of the blue it will straighten out and allow me to restore and start all over again.... sigh! All issues started a couple months ago but prior to that I never had a hint of a problem.... Hope they fix everything so I don't have to go through these withdrawals again. Gonna take them apprx 2 weeks to get it back to me... pooh. Aside from all that, it's been a real descent notebook. I wish it had a DVD burner in it though. Does anyone know if an internal dvd burner has been installed successfully? Sorry for ranting, but I've been away for a while... LOL!

Knowing the Best Buy repair center from previous experience, they'll screw it up. ;) It took them four times to replace the defective fan in a Compaq laptop. They kept replacing the processor fan instead of the syatem fan. I even put a post-it note on the general area of the bad fan that was on the other end of the laptop. After four tries, they got it replaced but the laptop died two days after I got it back. I now have an eMachines M6811 compliments of the Best Buy "No Lemon" clause. :D

As much as people rip on BBY, their warranty is rather comprehensive for a retail store warranty. No one else replaces batteries and I don't know of anyone who replaces the product with a new model after 3 repairs & a 4th repair is deemed necessary

My gf went from an Athlon XP-M HP notebook to a sleek little HP dv1000 ;)

If you're willing to give Dell enough grief over it, they will do it. but it takes at least 3 botched service calls and a good throat. you need to lose your voice with the amout of grief you give them. but they WILL do it.

My Best Buy PSP experience was a nightmare. Sent my M6805 in for the broken hinge, dead battery and my video was on the fritz. Came back with the hinge repaired but 3 rubber standoffs at the bottom torn off and they didn't fix the video. Battery was still dead and video was gettin more corrupt. Sent it back to them immediately and it came back with all the rubber standoffs torn off and nothing repaired. Pissed off I went to them and demanded to know wtf they were smoking. After 5 minutes with corporate the geeksquad douche comes back to me and tells me I gotta send it back in again anyway. Since it was now a month since I had use of my lappy, I happily told them to fvck off and give me a refund on my plan. I then sent it to emachines who charged the same amount of money and replaced the entire mobo with a 1 week turnaround time.

Cliff notes: BB PSP sucks. eMac repairs rule.

I was without my sony from the end of Nov. to the beginning of March while it was in for repairs at best buy. First they replaced the motherboard/video card and that took till the end of Jan. Got it back, wrong video card, take it back in, they ship it out again. Finally, in March, they tell me they can't get the parts and tried to offer me a much inferior laptop. I just went to customer service and asked for a gift card (due to others on AT telling me I could do this) and they gave me one for the full purchase price.

I now have a 60" sony grand wega as my gaming monitor thanks to my PSP :)

Jeez! I just got back from BB with my "supposedly" repaired 6805. Welp, they fixed the hinge and sent me a new battery in a different shipment, but my cdrw still won't write a darn cd. it gets about 1/2 to 3/4 way through a compiled write session then fails. I've even tried the Roxio program it comes with (was using Nero). I've been without the unit for 2 weeks and now I have to take it back and probably be without it another two weeks. The repair sheet said they "cleaned" the cdrw drive....... well if that's all it needed, I'm okay with that..... but apparently they didn't even test it to see if it corrected anything. It's just very frustrating to have to go through all this again.

Bummer!!!

It's a shame you have to go through this 4 times before you can force their hand at replacement..... They're gonna get tired of seeing me for the next few months it appears..., sigh! If they'd just fix it, I'd be happy...
