I have an eVGA 6800 Ultra and my temps at idle are 58-60c with an ambient of 44c. This is with the stock aluminum heatsink/fan.
I was getting about 2-3c higher, but I pulled off the assembly, cleaned off the stock thermal grease and put on some arctic silver that I had laying around. I was going to put a Zalman VGA heatsink on there, but the screws were incompatible with the smaller holes on the 6800, so I just put back on the original h/s assembly. Now it runs slightly cooler at idle just because of better thermal paste. That stock h/s is crap though.
I've ordered a swiftech watercooling kit the H20-120 with a VGA waterblock and cpu waterblock for my AMD FX-53, so I'll see if idle is any better with that.
I mainly just get sick of the damned fan noise coming from that vid card. I put a Zalman copper h/s on my cpu and it's a lot more quiet, but the 6800 fan noise more than makes up for that reduction.
