Yep, in that Gamespot interview Ujesh Desai said the Ultra would ship at 400/550.

So what's with this 440Mhz stuff? Maybe NV has been sandbagging. :D

Yeah, even at 450Mhz I don't see why anyone would buy the Ultra over the GT.

Unless they hold back the GT for a while.

I wonder if the cores mature more if youll be able to pull more outta them.
kinda like different stepping in CPUs allow for higher OCs

I think only the Gainward cards will be clocked higher than the stated 400 MHz (maybe one other card manufacturer). Probably use some special cooling to get to this higher frequency.

Its nice to see the Ultras being upped to 440mhz core. They do need it to stand apart from the GTs as you guys said.

The GT will be crippled by Ram speed ratings. I bet the buyer will have to wade thru TSOP mem, or some ugly slow BGA and crappy inadequate HS/fan designs to find a really good GT maker.

Theres no current evidence of that, as far as we know, what you just said you just pulled outa your ass.

6800GT samples given to Firing Squad were able to overclock memory and core to > Ultra speeds.

As far as I can tell, the GT and the ultra will have the exact same memory chips. Samsung lists DDR3 at 500,600,700, and 800 mhz. Since the GT has 500 mhz memory they either have to max out 500 mhz chips (unlikely), or give it the 600 mhz chips that the Ultra (550 mhz) will have.

Nvidia will not warranty 6800 cards over 400Mhz period, on top of that it is only one year until someone proves me wrong.
