This is for a BFG 6800oc video card. All places I see to order it say it requires a 300w power supply. How much of a requirement is that?

I am running a Shuttle SN85G4V2.

Its a great system. Not had one issue so far and honestly not sure how to take the requirement. I am pretty sure my card should run perfectly fine with it. But, hate to buy it and not work because of that issue.

Link to My System Stats

My computer has a 240W SilenX power supply.

All I am running is the CD-Rom, the hard drive, and the Card Reader.

That and a PS2 Keyboard and a USB Mouse.

Any thoughts on this and do all 6800 cards say this?

Thanks up front.

Your PSU should be fine. They have to put a bit of leeway into their numbers for el-cheapo PSUs.

thats a kickass looking SFF system.. really nice.
what videocard have you got in there right now? something like a 9800 takes a decent amount of power too, and if thats' running OK, likely a 6800 would.
don't have a definitive answer for ya though.

He should be fine. If you can believe it, an OC'd 6800 actually uses less wattage than a 9800 Pro.

Well got a 9600Xt in it now and I agree its a very kick ass system. I seriously love it. I know its small but everything is so well organized that this thing feels like it has better air flow than my old computer which was a mid tower with 4 5 1/4 drive bays. Its just made awesome and so easy to use and work with. If your in the market I would highly recommend it.

The system is great, just like four parts and it will be perfect. New monitor, video card, mouse, and hard drive. Upgrading hard drive to sata and looking for a larger one than 80gb. The mouse I am getting, at least 99% sure I am getting is the new Razer Diamondback. As far as video card fighting between 6600GT and 6800nu. Monitor I am looking at a nice 17" lcd. Seen some super nice prices on some very nice reviewed ones for some very reasonable prices. Need lcd over my kick ass 19" NEC as I need portability and ease of movement. Hate to let my NEC 19" go as it still rocks but just got to move on to something ligher and slightly easier on my eyes when stareing at text for many many hours.

But back to the point, thanks again for the advice and thats what I was hoping. This is a good power supply in it and honestly it should be fine, just was worried when I noticed thats a specific requirement of the system to include the card.

Shuttle has very strong PSUs, don't let the 240W rating fool you. The reason for the warning is that many users who have high-end cards tend to pack their case with lots of additional power draining hardware (eg, multiple hard drives w/ RAID, multiple optical drives, sound card, etc), something you can't do with an SFF.

I would only be concerned that the card wouldn't fit (it is big) and the noise from the fan.

Shuttle is unique because they both use pretty good quality PSU's and because they use lower powered (smaller) motherboards. Plus you can't fit nearly as many componens (ie extra drives, PCI cards, etc) into a Shuttle case.

The 240W Shuttle should be fine for the 6800OC. Were you on a regular system though, I'd recommend at least a 300W name brand PSU though.

Anandtech did a review of the VIA based Shuttle SK83G (nearly identical to the SN85G4V2) and were able to install a 6800GT with no problems:

Anandtech
After weeks of waiting, we were finally able to test out a GeForce 6800 series card to see if it could fit and operate in an SFF system. We tested a PNY GeForce 6800GT (taken from a local Best Buy) inside the Shuttle SK83G, and experienced no issues with installation or operation. It was a tight fit, but it worked, and the PSU was able to handle a Windows XP install and multiple gaming apps.
