Hello everybody,

I have read a lot of what has been posted about softmodding the 6800NU to a GT. Right now, I'm interested in buyinig a new vid card and I'm willing to wait and save up for a GT but I would like to know the current situation and thoughts on unlocking the extra pipes and the vertex (what is this????). Is it safe to do? Like somebody said, even if 200 people report that they have a successful mod, that doesn't mean much. so....please help me. thanks!

EDIT - I understand that its basically a crapshoot to see if you actually have 4 working pipes.

I tried it on a BFG 6800NU, and it did not work, I got green triangles on the screen.

But it was super easy to undo, and the card still rocks at default.

My 6800NU modded successfully, and with a mild OC to to 350/800 was pretty close to my 6800GT at some benches.

You can't
softmodding the 6800NU to a GT
however; it has half the RAM and it's much slower RAM.

You can make a hotrodded NU, the GT is the card for a long term choice.

thanks for your replies. rollo, what is hotrodded?

so, when we say softmod, that means with software right? hardmod means actually using tools and physically doing something to the card right?

thanks.

he means that you can make it into a faster card but because it has half the ram, and slower memory its never going to be a true 6800 GT

It's a software mod, and like Shady says, by "hotrodded" I mean "performance enhanced" but also that it can never be as good as a GT.
