It is important to note that the overclocked X800Pro was physically altered to increase the voltage on the core and still "...The GeForce 6800 GT easily overclocks to the frequencies of the GeForce 6800 Ultra and more; that is, it provides the same performance as the top-end model ? I can?t say that about the RADEON X800 Pro?"
The maximum fill rate achieved by the X800Pro was (12 pipelines x 630mhz) 7560, far short of the ~8320 figure of its brother, the x800xt. However, 6800GT achieved Ultra's fillrate without any voltage adjustments (and UE speeds with watercooling).
As a result, "X800 Pro GPU, looks disadvantageous: roughly, in two games out of ten it is a little faster than the competitor; in three games more they were equal; and in five games the RADEON was more or less slower than the GeForce 6800 GT." -
correction, GG pointed out that only 9 games were benched.
Hopefully this review will allow others to make a better choice with regard to their new card purchase.
Of course price and the games you personally play should be a factor.
Currently the cheapest 6800GT on pricewatch is $389 and X800Pro is $414 => $25
Considering 6800GT also supports PS3.0, it should prove to be slightly more futureproof. Of course ATi's 3Dc should come into play with games like HL2 and STALKER.
EDIT: I cannot disregard ATI's potential response to the GT - Article For ATi's counter to be effective, X800Pro's price must also come down in order for their "GT" alternative to remain competitive with the 6800GT's price, which will surely put a smile on ppl's faces.
