6800gt vs 7800gtx

I just bought a 6800gt about a month back... 7800s out, is it a must buying 7800? I mean the leap cant be as big as that from geforce 5 to geforce 6??

It's certainly not worth the $600 price tag. That 6800GT should be fine for at least another year. What's the rest of your PC like?

The 6800GT is still a very capable card. It's still capable of running the latest games at high res with eye candy. I personally don't think the price/performance exists to make upgrading to 7800GTX a viable investment yet.

amd 64 3800+
A8N-SLI Deluxe
Corsair 3200XL 512x2 MB
2 CD/DVD ROMs
Enermax All in One Sli Certified psu
what do u think?

even if you do have a 1920x1440 or higher display, it's not really a necessary upgrade. Being able to run some games @ 1600, and every game @ 1280 4xaa/8xaf, I don't feel the need to plunk down $600 for a bit higher resolution. if it actually offered more features, perhaps.. but not for the ability to run a bit higher res.

might be worth it for those who were looking to upgrade their old cards (r3xx, nv3x and older), but from an x800/850 or 6800gt/u, $600 is not a very good price/performance upgrade.

those that have money to burn, or have the need to own the fastest card avail may find a reason to upgrade, but heck.. i buy this stuff just to play with the tech, and i find no desire to upgrade...

until something like ut3 comes out, or the price drops about $200, I doubt I'll have the urge...

I don't think their are any games out yet that need more horsepower than a 6800GT can provide unless you run resolution greater than 1600x1200.

Even so I bet you could OC to make the cut.

you are sitting pretty tight with a 6800.. you have all the core stuff necessary like SM3.
if you had bought a SM2 card i'd feel a little reluctant on buying because looking at the entire GF6 lineup being SM3 and the Geforce7 being SM3.

The 6800GT is still a VERY solid card, and the best buy still in my book.

Shader Model 3, DX9C support and SLI capable.

It'll be a leap, of course, but you already have a very capable card, among the best of the market. Unless you like to be the first in line to be hit by the new tech prices, you should wait.

The performance-for-money return ratio will be horrible. Buy more RAM and a kick-ass monitor instead if you must burn some c@$h. 🙂

Im gonna stick with my GT for awhile. Since I only game at 12X10, the extra juice dosnt really do it for me. The only really compelling thing to me is that new AA. Those screenshots on the Anand review look really nice, not $600 nice mind you, but nice nonetheless.
