Hey everyone,

I'm wondering if I would get any noticable difference out of swapping my 6800 NU which is unlocked to 16/6, for a 6800GT.

Here is the backbone of my current system:

2.6C P4
Abit AI7
1GB Corsair VS
BFG 6800NU unlocked, and running at 350/700... Also has NVsilencer on it.

So, would it be worth the energy of selling and upgrading.

No.

You'd be much better off getting a PCI-e MB and a 7600GT. About the same price or cheaper than an AGP 6800GT, but you get a faster card.

Nope. I would suggest you start saving up for AM2 or Conroe.

A 7600GT is fast if not faster than the 6800GT!!. So save up to switch to PCI-e.

You could go for a 7800GS which, to my knowlege, is the best in terms of feature support (ie. SM3.0 & HDR) or you could swap out for an X850XTPE (which go pretty cheap nowadays) for the fastest card.

I used to own an X800GTO2 @ 561/600 and it scored around 7200 in '05 with my 165 @ 2.8 - not a bad card at all.

But, tbh, I wouldn't upgrade now. I'd just save up for PCI-E - perhaps wait until Conroe or AM2 as Cookie Monster suggested. You aren't going to notice that HUGE a difference going from a 6800 @ 16/6 to a 7800GS.

Upgrading to another agp card would be a waste at this point since the higher end agp cards are more expensive and/or slower than their pcie versions.

The 7800gs is gimped and around 40% slower than the 7900gt for nearly the _same_ price.
And like the others said, you could get a 7600gt+pcie mb for the same price as an agp 6800gs.

I have an eVGA 6800NU unlocked with NVsilencer on it too running with just a bit more megahertz. Moving to a 7800GT made a HUGE difference. But tbh... I think you should save your money and wait for a bit because you are not going to sqeeze any juice out of a new card with that CPU.

When I upgraded my A64 3000+ to the dual core I tossed the 3000+ into my HTPC and the 6800NU into my workstation ( a barton 2800+ ) and the numbers went down ofc. The barton can run laps around the 2.6C you have in games so tbh I know the kind of performance you get now and I know how the 6800NU scales with a better platform.

I just don't think you are going to get your money's worth out of a 6 series or 7 series card with that CPU. Keep what you have or get off the 2.6C..

Thanks everyone for your replies...

I'll guess I will just stick with what I have and save up for a whole new build in the near future.

I'll be going AMD this time for sure, just gotta figure out which route I am going to take.
